You might wish to think about why it is that Christians expect non-Christians to submit to their moderation in accordance with forum rules (once established and properly understood), yet those very same Christians won't "submit" to being moderated by non-Christians. Doesn't that sound a bit like they think they're too good to be moderated by non-Christians, even if the same rules and standards are applied?

This is a Christian site, therefore it should be moderated by Christians in order to uphold good sound Christian values.

For the life of me I will never understand why some people just don't get this.

What's next; Christians won't submit to a traffic citation from a non-Christian officer or a ruling from a non-Christian judge? When you begin to believe that you're better than other people, it's time to note that you're probably worse.

Just because Christians wish for this site to remain within Christian hands does not mean they think they are better.... it simply means they think a Christian site should be in the hands of Christians. After all, would a church just allow just anyone to take charge of it?

I will never go over to a muslim forum and ask to moderate for them,,, what's the logic behind that?

If Christians feel it's appropriate for them to moderate over non-Christians, then they should recognize that the reverse is also true. If they can't, then we have to deal with working our way around that word that Christians hate so much. But while they hate the word, it seems they have no distaste for the action, belief and behavior that word describes. And when they see the word as worse than the actions, they can assure themselves that what they proclaim to be Christian values have no value to them whatsoever.

I do not understand this statement at all. Again this has everything to do with a Christian site remaining in Christian hands. If this were NOT a Christian site, then I would be 100% in agreement with you that anyone who wishes to mod should mod as long as rules are equally treated.

But this is a Christian site,,, the title says so. As such, it should remain in Christian hands.

Option 1 is the more christlike option. We are not called as Christians to have 'safe places' we are called to be in the world. I have seen enough hurtful comments from so-called 'Christians' here to last me a lifetime.

Should we return to the old ways I will leave. The changes Erwin put in place have a chance to make this place much more welcoming to non-christians, to return to the old ways would be a slap in the face to those of us who have laboured to see a 'welcoming community' built here.

Atheist "Then would you be willing to share your website with others as equals?"

Christian "Why look, brother, we have almost the entire site opened up to non-Christians as equal members. We have the fellowship area, the Debate area... the only areas that were ever specifically for Christians were the Christian-specific Theology areas, and the Christian-specific Congregational fora, and I don't really understand why a non-Christian would want to go in those..."

The same reason a non-Christian might go to a church, a billy graham crusade, a meeting with the pope, etc.

While it is true that some non-Christians will be there to harass, there will be some among them will will be lead by the Holy Spirit, and will accept the invitation. My opinion may not be the most popular one, but for me, if one person comes to Christ because we allowed open dialogue between non-Christian and Christian in the previously Christian Only areas, then it's worth the temporary sorrow of losing privacy.

I am not saying that Christians shouldn't have their own private area to congregate, but I am saying that within these, there should be a forum area for non-Christians to ask questions and participate. Not just a few open topics, but a sub forum for each Christian Only area, that allows for non-Christians to ask questions of Christians, pertaining that particular forum and the topics within it. Ex: Non-Denominational Congregation - Christians who attend non-denom churches would discuss. There would also be a subforum for non-christians to ask questions about non-denominational churches, what each one believes, how to find one, or whatever else may come to mind, relating to the subject. Or we could do it the other way around, making the main denominational forum open to all, and a small sub-forum for Christians to discuss issues that require further Christian input. I don't know... these are just suggestions. I'm not here to instruct on how to do this.

Imagine if we allowed this and our friend Beastt here were one of those who came to Christ. I can tell you that I would be among the first to be jumping for joy because of it. :prayer:
Oh Lord please let him see more of you, and less of us, in our actions. Please help us to show him who you truly are. In your name, Amen.

I think we'd do the same no matter who it was but ... just imagine the possiblities.

Now I'm seeing Christians praying and voting that the abuses will continue.

Beastt... how many years have you been posting here now? Stop being antagonistic. Suggesting Christians pray for "abuses" is offensive... and you know that.

Perhaps the real "abuse" here is your dishonestly using CF as a way to antagonize Christians you do not like or disagree with. If CF stafff were truly abusive you would have been booted from here a long, long time ago.

James,

You can ignore the historical abuses that non-christians and quite a number of liberal christians here have suffered or you can work to do something about them.

Which?

Don't preach to me, mate. I've done my bit for King and Country, long before you were ever on staff.

You say I'm ignoring. I say your being facetiously dramatic.

the discussion has died down here considerably. perhaps the reforms, now a month in effect, are not the apocalypse some predicted
Actually you are seeing us in the eye of the storm where it just seems quiet. Many are waiting on an updated announcement from Erwin in light of what he said below before they do more and many are sick of the wikis and not bothering anymore.

And many people are away on holidays at the moment too!

I am hoping that Erwin will see that a Christian Forum should, be open for use by non Christians but not open to the control of non Christians.

But then that is only my opinion and I would not like to offend people by suggesting that there is only one way to the Father and that is through Jesus Christ Our Lord! Heaven forfend!!!

Or in the highways and hedges of the Internet, having removed themselves or having been forcibly removed from the site. If nothing else, CF ought to be a welcoming place, accepting of people where they stand and ministering to their needs as may best be done in this format. That is the example of Christian Scripture in Christian comportment and hospitality, while having the rules speak for themselves.

I just had a very relaxing weekend away from CF. I didn't think about it once and that was a great thing.

I encourage all of you to take all of this in stride and take things as they come. Relax! You know why? Cuz in a month or so it's all gonna change again anyway!!

Personally I view CF not as a site for Christians but a site about Christianity. And that, in my mind, should be more inclusive to non-Christians. My interest in Christianity is similar to my interest in Greek mythology. I don't believe in it, but I still love to discuss/study it. I think that this should be just as much my site as it as a Christian's site.

Like many I will wait and see where it goes but if it cant remain a Christian site where we are free to express our beliefs without a lot of harassment then I will be done as I can and do experience the same thing in the world. This is a place I come to relax and fellowship and if possible help someone.
