Any astronomers out there?

This is something I've been into for a long time. I recently found out that 2 hours north of me hosts the best place to see stars east of the Mississippi. Eventually I will be planning a trip there, but I need to get a new telescope first. I've been looking at a couple Meade equatorials. Especially looking at the new Max Mount they have out. That thing is awesome. :>

Awesome! The telescope I use was around before electricty but it still works pretty well. I've been looking at a few of the newer ones. I'll have to check out the new Max Mount.

I love looking at the stars, the only thing is that i live in Los Angeles the worst place to view the night sky. But i do get to see some stars and planets like Saturn, Jupiter, and mars. My entire family is planning a trip to sequoia natinal park wich is known for star gazing.........and bears

I've not used them for star gazing.

I know there are some that are quite good, not as good as a good telescope, but you're able to see many things and you can't beat the portability

I've used binoculars for stargazing before. Some I've seen can even compete with a telescope but those are usually quite expensive. The pair I use is made by Tasco and the field view is "1000yds : 341 ft". They work pretty well and I've seen similar strentgh binoculars at sporting goods stores sell for between $20-$50.

i've used these interesting binoculars from Germany for star gazing before, i cant remeber the brand or what ever...its been way too long but they were good, now i use a Meade telescope

I'm an ametuer star gazer and I would reccomend Nikkon for a good set of binocs. Something with a X50 or better lense to pick up a wider field and to allow more light in for better clarity.

for you stargazers...I have a book or two to recomend (the heavens declare) and gospel in the stars. They talk about the constelations and how ancietn cultures used to see them ...I read the book a few years ago...it was really intresting...my favorite was what we see as herculese they used to see as two men head to head, one is fighting a serpent the other has overcome the serpent and is stepping on his head that serpent head is the dragon as we see it today. I thought that was pretty cool

WOO HOO!! I love astronomy! How could anyone not.
Some very beautiful things out there.

I made a 10" dobsonian about ten years ago.. I can see some pretty cool things with it. I'm looking for a more powerful scope now though.

I love the ancient legends surrounding the stars. The one about Sirius and Procyon being separated always made me kinda sad. I'll have to check out those books!
