I am a Christian. I study Astrology, Numerology, and Tarot. There is much I don't believe in regards to many of the books written on these subjects. In fact, I think much of it is wrong. However, I make it a practice to test what I learn on these matters against scripture. For me Tarot is a meditative tool and something I use for guidance, ALONG with my BIBLE. Astrology I use more to understand personality and relationship issues, though I do like to see the trends occuring in the heavens and know how they are affecting our behavior. As for Numerology, I see this much like Astrology in terms of understanding people and situations. I DO NOT practice nor believe in witchcraft! Yet, I am shocked at how all of the "new age" studies get lumped together.
I would love to hear from others on their views regarding the Tarot....Astrology...and Numerology.
Blessings,
Indigo Rose

Never was a fan of divination etc myself, it comes from Pagan/Shamanic practises foreign to the Jewish line of thought. Also we tend not to worry about the future, and live for the hear and now and make this world a better place.

I dont see how Tarot fits in with christianity at all, but whatever....

I think there is a study of scriptures called "Gammatria" where each letter has a numerical value and can be viewed perhaps differently... I think this is an interesting area of study as it was widely used among Jews, early Christians and Moslems.

But my own view is that a lot of people are defrauding others in Tarot readings, astrology and popular numerology.

So I don't think they have a good reputation or validity.

To me the Holy Scriptures are a better source and a more reliable way for a spiritual understanding our place in the universe.

I think divination can be useful if used with a proper motivation and as a supplement to making decisions, As long as it doesnt become the focus or sole basis for decisions.
I totally agree that proper motivation is important. I think divination helps a person to find the anwers in the subconscious. Or if a person is adept enough to tune into the energies of another then divination will help the advanced practitioner find the answers in another person's subconscious. I do think that if someone is advanced in their craft they can make decisions based on the outcome of a divination reading.

I personally feel there are very few people in this world who are advanced enough that someone could actually trust another person's reading enough to base a decision of their life upon. But I think a reading gives a person something to ponder about. Kind of like a 3rd party point of view you may consider.

Hi Rose! I'm just returning to CF after a LONGGGGG absence (been off to war, am just now getting ready to head back to the world, wooo-hooo!!).

Funny I should find your message here today, as I have been researching this topic heavily these past few days. I, too, am a Christian who practices astrology, Tarot, and numerology. Like you, I use astrology to understand relationship patterns, and Tarot mostly in seeking God's will -- always in connection with my prayer and Scripture study, which automatically trump anything the cards might seem to say. If it contradicts Scripture, I just assume that my reading was off that day for some reason (like, for example, the other day when I tried to do a reading in a busy laundry room! LOL).

Unfortunately I am on a time limit with this very slow machine, or I would take the time to locate the exact quote, but where is it in Paul's epistles where he says "let everyone be convinced in his own mind"???? "Everything that does not proceed from faith is sin...." Does your practice proceed from a sincere, humble faith in God's fatherly guidance? Only you and He can answer that.

Blessings,

~~Cheryl

Better put of that tarot & astrology as it is ALL of the devil; scripture alone is salvation!

So if I get it right, if it isn’t in the Bible it’s of the devil? And you’re using a computer, which are not mentioned in the Bible at all? :p

People shouldn't be so quick to condemn others or their activities or call them devilish or evil simply because they don't understand them. If some one's heart is in the right place and they're not hurting anyone, then why not let them do what they do without being told their following "the devil"?

Then they wouldn't be able to be in control. They wouldn't be able to look down their noses. They wouldn't be able to say "I thank thee Lord, that I am not as other men".

I agree.

Wouldn't following the devil be to do harm to others and oneself? I don't see anything in this new age stuff that is harming.

And also how is untruth = evil?

and the Kabalah? Where does it fit in if not with mysticism? Those practices she speaks of are mystic in nature. Miracles are mystic in nature so Christianity is not new to it.

Was Daniel in charge of Nebuchaneezer's court astrologers? Did Joseph have a scrying cup?

Mysticism in Christianity for some reason historically has rankled those with temporal power to lose, but it's an old and rich tradition.

Oh, yeah. How was it again that the Magi knew the Christ Child was born?

I think most orthodox Christians would agree that astrology is a bad thing, since the worship of the stars was commonly equated with idolatry. From a Christian standpoint, I suppose that modern astrology is rather harmless.

But as a scientist, I have quite the personal vendetta against this field of study. I become rather frustrated when people claim that neutrinos that pass through Jupiter can affect people on earth. Anyone who knows what a neutrino is would never say such a thing.

Good
Most Llewelyn books are utter crap (except in 20th century politically correct interpretations of pagan practices)
However, I make it a practice to test what I learn on these matters against scripture. For me Tarot is a meditative tool and something I use for guidance, ALONG with my BIBLE.
The tarot is a set of cards created for a series of games. However, like a standard deck of modern cards, it can be used for a "self insight" tool
Astrology I use more to understand personality and relationship issues, though I do like to see the trends occuring in the heavens and know how they are affecting our behavior.
The movement of celestial bodies do not significantly effect our "behavior"
And not even gravitational pull can be used as an explanation
As for Numerology, I see this much like Astrology in terms of understanding people and situations.
No, you dont, not objectively at least
I can do a numerology chart on someone named "Lisa McDirmit" and apply it equally to somebody named "John Jones", "Ian Duinn" or "Angus McNaughton"
It's called cold reading, and we do it to ourselves all the time
I DO NOT practice nor believe in witchcraft!
Of course you dont practice Witchcraft. But you dont believe in it (ie- you dont believe it exists in a real form?)
That would be odd, as the modern english bible refers to it quite a bit (and this is the "word of God", right?)
Yet, I am shocked at how all of the "new age" studies get lumped together.
Im not
Much of the modern new age (or, rather "Modern Pagan") outlook comes from the likes of Silver Ravenwolf, Buckingham, and Scott Cunningham
They were, for many years, the speakers of modern paganism. What you are shocked by does not suprise me at all
I would love to hear from others on their views regarding the Tarot....Astrology...and Numerology.
Well, I would comment further, but I think I have made my thoughts crystal clear.
But, if I have failed in that, please feel free to ask when I get off work tomorrow......'cause it's too close to bedtime for bonzo here
