  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't know about this one.  What if you suffer from a rare disease that causes a great amount of pain and the doctors can do nothing else for you?

The doctor may see "Do no harm" as meaning they should allow you to die to keep you from more pain, even to the point of assisting you with death.

Let's add another dimension to it.  Let's say you have a Christian who has a disease that can cause them to suffer from dementia (possibly caused from the severe pain they feel on a daily basis) and they have been told they have at most five years yet till they die.  Knowing that their disease will kill them, and fearing not only the future pain they will inevitably experience, but also fearing that the dementia will cause them to become poor witnesses to the Lord, possibly even interfering with their salvation or the salvation of others, it might be a better thing to take the quick way out.  Let's make the situation just a little worse, let's say the person was told they could possibly live longer then the five years but it would mean even greater pain.

There are rare instances where a person has a very strong body but also has a disease that slowly kills them.  The strong body then becomes a curse in that it allows the person to live, and suffer, longer.

If a loved one was undergoing incredible pain and all you could do to help them is to give them the peace of death . . . would you?

I remember many years ago hearing of the myth of a soldier who broke the legs of Jesus while he was on the cross.  As the legend goes, Jesus curses the soldier with immortality until the time of Revelations.  Initially I didn't think that much of a curse but without death there is no end to pain and nothing to look forward to to end it.

I hope that each of us would strive to help that person live fully and to see the value of life, even a life that is "less" than they expected. Every person is to be respected, every life to be cherished. It is far better to help someone manage their pain than to end their life prematurely. It is far better to help people see the value of their last days than to give them something to make them die.

We all lose when someone dies, especially when that person dies prematurely. We must learn to see that everyone has something to contribute, even when they are sick and helpless.

Human beings are not disposable, and to approve of assisted suicide sends the message that life is only worth living when it feels good.
