A new survey reveals that about half of Americans who lean Left politically believe murdering President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk is at least somewhat justified as concerns mount about “assassination culture.”

The Network Contagion Research Institute and Rutgers University’s Social Perception Lab released a report Monday titled “Assassination Culture: How Burning Teslas and Killing Billionaires Became a Meme Aesthetic for Political Violence.” The data included in the report is based on responses collected from 1,264 U.S. adults. The main takeaway from the report is that, “A broader ‘assassination culture’ appears to be emerging within segments of the U.S. public on the extreme left.”

The survey, which comes at a time when Trump and Musk are facing ire for their efforts to trim the size of the federal government, asked respondents whether they thought murdering the two men or destroying Tesla dealerships that sell products manufactured by a company owned by Musk was justified. Among the whole sample, 31.6% of respondents maintained that murdering Musk was at least somewhat justified. That number rose to nearly half (48.6%) among Americans who identify as Left of center.

I don't know how accurate that polling data is, but if it is true, than that is more than a little bit frightening.

I've heard lots of left wingers talk, and read a lot of their posts. I don't doubt that it is accurate. I was shocked when even a good friend of mine told me he wished the assassin hadn't missed Trump.

Not sure what's more surprising, that more left leaning Americans think assassination of Trump and Musk is justified or the number of right leaning Americans think it's justified.

Please explain this post. It looks like to me that you believe that there is a poll suggesting that right-wing Americans, or right leaning Americans, think it is justifiable to assassinate President Trump and/or Elon Musk. If so, then I am unaware of that poll.

Do you believe the poll about the number of left leaning Americans that thinks it's justified to assassinate Trump and Musk? It's the same site.

I know it happens on both sides, but it seems to disproportionally happen on the left nowadays.

They used a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 not justified at all and 7 completely justified. The reported nmumbers include anyone who wasn't 1. Typically surveys report only people on one side of neutral, which in this case would be 5 to 7.

Numbers that would normally be reported would be 16 for the sample as a whole and 30 for left. Still a high number in my opinion.

The actual concern of the report seems to be certain online cultures, with support being concentrated there.

I thought the left wants gun control and blames conservatives for school shootings. Then if conservatives look for alternatives like charter schools and homeschooling, the left objects to that. I guess there are valid “revolutionary” exceptions for firearms of course.

Funny how a majority of right-leaning Americans thought the insurrection was justified. Violence tends to breed violent reaction. When the worst and most radical control the republican party, it's not surprising that the worst on the left are emboldened. People forget that in Germany as the Nazis moved to end democracy, the far left became increasingly violent and aggressive. This is what it looks like when freedom falls.

I notice that Donald Trump now wants to use government force to determine accreditation of colleges and universities. The far right should consider that weaponizing accreditation results in a two-edged sword. He imagines that things will always go his way from now on, but it's not a sure thing, yet. But maybe he's right...

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,

Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Only God knows our hearts, but if I were a betting man, many were disappointed that Trump didn't die from his assassination attempt last year. There is a lot of anger and hate in this country.

Depends which left you're talking about, Liberals are for banning guns, Leftists are very pro gun especially if they have a cause they would be useful for. In the end they still vote for Liberals, however. Which is pretty much an oxymoron.
