• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello,

I've finally decided to get professional help. I know that my healing lies in Jesus Christ. But I need 'real' help to get me back on the right track.

But I have no idea where to go.

I don't want a program where you go every few days and they ask you "how do you feel about that?" that has never worked for me.

I am willing to do what it takes to be set free from all this.

So if you know of a place - some where to turn, preferably christian. let me know.

I need a program that is going to stay God based, and is long enough to keep me from going back to what I was doing.

I live in Illinois, and would be very thankful if you could help me out.

Thanks,
Jennifer Rose.

I don't know much about the area you live in but sometimes big churches have like counselling services that they can provide so if you know any that might be a good place to start. Also if you have a youth group sometimes the leaders can help you find somewhere that is good or just be someone you can talk to

I would suggest the same. Maybe ask priests around your parish about it. Or if you are not comfortable doing that, maybe try running a search online for places around your area. You would really have to really..as some would say.. "do your homework" on these places then and find out which place is best for you.
I would try asking trusted people, though. You might get better answers from them as far as where to go.
I can try running a search as well, if you would like(online). Just have to think of how to search for it(like keywords and stuff)..But I am more than willing to help.

Jennifer,
It is good that you realize you need help. That is always the first step to recovery and managing depression. Unless you have a good financial base you will be limited in the help you get. The first place I would check is with your county health department. They may not be able to help you but they may have some resources. Also check your local yellow pages and look under psycholoigsts, pshychatrist, and counseling....My prayers are with you....God Bless You and EVERYONE!!!....Rush

I'll include you in my prayers as well. Getting counselling that you're comfortable with is important. Stick with it and find one you're comfortable with. .. you'll be glad you did.

God's love be with you ...

Moving with the hand that moves the world is a good place to start (praying). Have you asked Jesus why you feel the way you feel? Jesus does provide "real" help, but you have not experienced that reality. Your honesty is refreshing, & you shouldn't feel ashamed.

The first thing I did after asking a question in prayer was to look in places where God might show me the answer to my question. The first place I looked was my Bible. Many people in the Bible have suffered from what we now call "mental illness." Perhaps you might find your answer there. Check out Job, Lamentations 3 & 4, Psalms: 18, 22, 40, 42, 88 for starters.

After that you might ask the elders of my church, family & friends to pray for you. Then go to your pastor, doctor, &/or a naturopath for help. Still, you may not receive an answer.

I suffered from depression. I took 5-HTP 300mg/day. I found my answer. Depression was a projection of my former self. My real problem was that I was trusting who I was rather than who God wanted me to be.

Jesus says, "Whoever desires to save one's life will lose it, but whoever loses one's life for my sake will find it" (Luke 9:24).

I will pray for you as you walk on your journey of faith. You may find that the answer God gives you is different than the one I received.

Hey,

Have you heard of Teen Challenge? Its a Christian organisation and they have centers all over the US that help people deal with life challenging problems like depression. A lot of the centers offer accommodation, where you can stay while you get help and recover. Their programs are God-based and intensive, especially if you stay there, and are long enough (6 months to 1 year or more) for you to truely get better. I'm not allowed to post the website for Teen Challenge since this is my first post, but search it on google and you'll find it.

I pray that you find the right help for you. God loves you.

love in Christ,
mark.
