  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is watching videos of women giving birth naturally considered a sin ?
I'm not sure why I watch these videos may to fill up the void in my life but since I watch them like everyday I feel like this has become an addiction or has dominated my life I'm afraid that God may abandon me because of this as whenever I pray to stop watching these videos I fail and watch them again. I'm really in need of advice

Hmmm... If you want to stop and keeping watching them anyway, then it's definitely an addiction and if its dominating your life and taking priority over God's will, then it would be like an idol, too.

Accountability partners are a good place to start - confiding in a close Christian friend who can pray for you and check up on you once in awhile to help you stay away from it. If possible, disconnect your internet connection or get an app that locks your phone down at certain times of day when you most likely will watch those videos.

But God will never abandon you. It's goo that you've already recognized there is a problem. Now you can start the journey back to a better relationship with Him.

As a side note, I think sometimes things like visual addictions are perhaps partially because what we are seeing is something our brain is having trouble fully understanding. But because it wants to understand, we find ourselves going back over and over and watching these things and trying imagine what that must be like.

Some people struggle with more gruesome things like watching the decapitation videos released by terrorists. Just the fact that someone can be whole and healthy one second and headless and dead the next is something hard to grasp. I know one person who felt oddly drawn to those kinds of videos, and I suspect that same reason is behind it - trying to understand how such a thing is possible but obviously never being able to truly know.

yeah you are so right I even look up for videos for people in pain in general and I don't know why I'm appealed to such a thing and I don't have a good reason for this

I really enjoy watching the pain of delivery. I believe this is an abnormal thing

Is it only physical pain or mental or emotional pain too? How do you react to what you’ve watched? Joy, satisfaction, arousal, etc.

no only watching and I wish I would find a reason for this

Thank you for answering. Enjoying the suffering of others isn’t good and you’re right to be concerned.

The inability to stop is troubling and could open a door to other problems. Many of the behaviors you described are shared by sadists. Due to its addictive nature you may find yourself desiring more extremes.

If you think back to where you began and what you’re viewing now there may be a progression of interest. It can blossom into sexual behaviors as a recipient or aggressor. Or lead you towards violent forms of pain. Both are difficult to stop.

Do you have a someone you can talk within the church?

Yes, what you describe MaryNabil is very concerning if you feel satisfied from seeing others in pain... Think for a moment that Jesus would certainly not have been happy about others suffering. He tried to end suffering as much as He was able during His time on earth.

As LaBella says, I would definitely talk to someone in the church about this. You don't want this to continute and there is always the potential for these things to progress into something even darker and more imprisoning over time.

You’re welcome. Prayer is the first step. Don’t be surprised if the desire increases because you’re praying.

1. Confess your feelings and the programs you watched. Repent for all of it.

2. Confess any unforgiveness, bitterness, or rejection you’ve experienced. Forgive those who’ve harmed and wronged you.

3. Ask the Lord for healing and deliverance from your obsession, addiction, sadism, anger, and all perversion. You must include the latter. Its connected.

4. Renounce your activities and ask the Lord for strength and assistance to prevent further engagement with these sin areas.

5. Request support and loving Christians to befriend and pray on your behalf.

6. Thank Him for His mercy, healing, deliverance and grace.

Pray this daily for the next 30 days. Keep a log of your viewing habits. If you stumble log it. Pay attention to the thoughts and feelings that lead you there.

Keep a daily journal too. Pour out your heart. Its private. If you don’t want to use a book set up a private WordPress.com blog and do it there.

See where you are in 30 days and give an update. God bless.

I don't think there's anything sinful about watching such a video, at least not in and of itself. However, if you're wasting time (stealing from God, an employer etc.) or if you're coveting something that God hasn't given you then yes it is a sin. If you're interested in being a doula or a maternity nurse or want to help with your friends or family who are pregnant, then there's no reason to believe such videos are sin.
