• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Due two my wrist braces I wear I'm sometimes asked by strangers when I do make it out "What happened? Did you slug your boyfriend?"

Yeesh, good thing they can't see my other braces/supports.

As you seemed to infer above, when someone asks a stupid question, give a stupid answer. ;)

HEHEHEHE, I have done this on a few occasions myself and it seemed to get the person more angry. ;);)
I couldn't find a bumper sticker that was mentioned before. It seems a bit in your face, But, Very true.

It seems like there is a real lack of sufficient handicapped parking in my town. Usually there are 2 spaces and I end up having to park far away unless I want to circle like a vulture waiting for someone to leave. I have noticed that there seem to be a LOT of folks, especially elderly, with handicapped placards. You'd think stores would provide more spaces.

A side note, after 2 spinal fusions I still have pain issues that get really bad if I try to push myself physically. Because I'm in my 30's and ambulatory (and thanks to a lot of PT I no longer need an assistive device), I get some nasty looks from older folks when I park in a handicapped space (I guess they don't notice the limp or the pained expression.). Has this happened to anyone else? Just curious...

This happens to me too Wiffey. I am not in a wheelchair and don't always take my crutches when I am shopping since I can lean on the trolley and or am having a good day.... and yeah, I get stared at when I get out of my car, specially since some people don't expect smiling blondes wearing sunnies to be disabled... at least until I walk off and they go "oh, oops" since my walk speaks for itself.....

I know the feeling wiffey. I have been thru the spinal fusion thing too. I have a thread I started in here that you may find interesting.

It has helped me a great deal in everyday activities, But, I still have a lot of pain issues somedays. Have you looked at something like this yourself ?? I have the link to awebsite that I went to when I first heard about this.

The Dr that did mine was great. I would do it all over again.
