  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I hope you do try it. Not because I believe it will be any good though....

What is your favorite movie?

I will. I don't know when, but I will.

Let's see. That would probably have to be Joe Versus the Volcano or Freddy Got Fingered. I think most people here would not like FGF (it's a little crude and not afraid to be), but they would like JVTV. Both are bildungsromans, like Terminator 2 and About A Boy and The Empire Strikes Back, some other favorites.

fruity pebbles and mashed potatoes...good stuff.

Last time you went to a pro sporting event?

I think that might have been a Minnesota Twins/New York Yankees game in May or April 2010, because I got free tickets. Before that, I think it was a game between the Geelong Cats and the Essendon Bombers in 2009. I don't go to many sporting events.

Right now, I want to go back to Melbourne. However, I'm open to anywhere at the moment. Wellington, Edmonton, Palo Alto, Cincinnati, Buenas Aires, London, Paris, Vienna, Chengdu, Harbin, Tokyo, Ho Chi Minh, Rome, Cairo, Jerusalem, Bucharest, etc. all seem like cool places.

I think I wanted to be an Astronaut.

Ooh, China! :)

What part of China did you go to?

Alberta is what I think of when I heard it, but I just wasn't sure. :)

Do you know any languages other than English?

Did you just do history as undergrad? Did you have any minors or concentrations?

I know a bit of Spanish too... I want to become conversationally better with it though, and I think the only way I can really do that is if I live in a Spanish speaking country.

Did you take a foreign language in highschool? Which one?

What was the main culture shock you got for each of the countries you visited?

Just as an undergrad. I was a double major in English, particularly the fin de siecle.

I took Mandarin Chinese.

China: The dog-eat-dog achievement mentality. Canada: A nicer, realist version of the USA. Australia: The secularism is even more obvious than it is in Minneapolis, the racism, and the loosened morals of a mainstream culture not even attempting to disguise itself. There is a scandal involving a footy player or his wife every month, and stuff of that nature.

Of all the countries I've been to, Australia's the most like us, and it's a second home. I wish I had the means to go back. They have most of their priorities straight, unlike us.
