This just plain makes me SICK!!

There is a whole collection of this kind of stuff HERE.

One word that caught my eye was "shahada" and here it explains what that means:
Particularly since September 2001, it is essential to understand the Islamic motivation of suicide terrorists.

"Shahada," or Death for Allah, as a religious tenet of Palestinian Islam, is different than "Martyrdom" in the Judeo-Christian tradition. In Palestinian Islam, a person must aspire to die for Allah, or he is not a complete Muslim. The promotion of Shahada includes promises of heavenly rewards, including 72 virgins of Paradise. Jihad, or war for Allah, is said to be a religious necessity, the only way to honor, in PA religious ideology.

We are taught to look for eternal life through Jesus Christ but also we are taught that God wants us to live:

Psalms 27: 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation-
whom should I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life-
of whom should I be afraid?

Matthew 6: 25 "This is why I tell you: Don't worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the sky: they don't sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you worth more than they?

Luke 12: 22 Then He said to His disciples: "Therefore I tell you, don't worry about your life, what you will eat; or about the body, what you will wear.23 For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens: they don't sow or reap; they don't have a storeroom or a barn; yet God feeds them. Aren't you worth much more than the birds?

There are slight problems when we try and set one meaning to words like Jihad.

Edit: I'm sorry but to use the Palestine situation to get an "accurate reflection" on Islam won't work. I might as well use Belfast to get an "accurate reflection" on the Protestant and Catholic religions.

Just as an FYI, your Arabic is completely off. Shahada is not martyrdom. The word for martyrdom is related, but should not be confused with Shahada.

Just to be clear, as a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ, are you accusing me of supporting suicide bombing?

Is there somewhere in my Bible that says I'm not allowed to do that?

Just checked...nope, there isn't.

I'm not holding this up as an example of Islam - I'm holding this up as an example of "palestinians" and their sick culture of death.

Really? I thought Jesus said not to give false witness. Not that I expect professing Christians to have anything in common with Jesus. In the absence of professed support for anything I think the wise course would be to assume nothing.

Have you ever actually visited Palestine or spoken to a Palestinian? I think you are making grave mistakes about what their culture is about.

You have your chance right now to condemm suicide bombing and the use of children in this way.

Waiting.

2 things - lets note that I put Palestinians in quotation marks in that statement. 2 - lets also not who the "palestinian people" have chosen to elect. Terrorists terrorists and more terrorists. From Arafat to Hammas - terrorists.

No, I don’t think I will. I think when it comes to violent atrocities. I think it would be best if I were proven to be in support of them. This guilty until proven innocent thing you’re trying to do, very Christian mind you, is a poor precedent to set.

I still don’t think you understand Palestinians. Have you visited the area or spoken to a Palestinian, Muslim or Christian, before?

There are some very good books I could recommend, David K. Shipler comes most quickly to mind.

I have two questions:

What is the Arabic word for martydom?

What does Shahada mean?

Just curious.

Thanks

Shahada comes from the root sh-h-d. It roughly means to view, witness, or experience.

Shahada means (according to the Hans-Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic) testimony, witness, evidence, deposition, statement, certification, etc....

Martyr is Shaheed, or Shaheeda for a woman.
