If teaching was about fun, do you think that would diminish students' present performance on standardized tests? Diminish their performance later in life? If you think it would, do you think that would do the students a disservice since other students, including foreign ones, are taught to excel at standardized tests, which are highly valued in college applications?

For 1st graders and i'd wager for most of elementary school- they need to see that learning is fun. Standardized tests are a joke- all students take them here (special ed. every level of intelligence, etc...) in other countries only the top students are taking those tests (the ones that are most likely to do very very well)- only their top students go on to higher education. Here we expect all to (which really isn't fair) excel in school and all to go on to college, even if they don't have the apptitude or the ability. I think it's wrong and cruel to expect the same results for every ability.

I enjoyed the first day probably the best- b/c i wasn't overloading them yet
