honestly, i'd like to be a stay at home mom and have lots of little ones. But some don't consider that a job , so i'll pick children's book illustrator.

Only someone who's never been around or had kids would say it's not a job (let's not pick nits about vocations or anything like that ).

Children's book illustrator sounds interesting. Have you done much drawing and/or do you have experience doing that, like drawing for fun (or while your students are taking exams )? Have you taken classes in it?

i took art all throughout school. I sketch off and on now- it's hard to find time to sit down and do it. I wish i had majored in that and pursued that in college- my parents were NOT very keen on that though.

What's keeping you from pursuing it now? Do you get out on weekends with a sketchpad, like on nature trails or something? If it's something you enjoy, why not pursue it as an avocation for a while in your down (i.e., non-teaching) time?

I hope you don't feel like I'm picking at you with them. I'm going through something of a career identity crisis, so empathize and sympathize with those who are not entirely content in their careers.

well in teaching there is hardly any non teaching time. Seriously, tonight i just got back from PTO after being at work all day. I'm really tired and i don't want to focus on intricate things. Tommorrow it's up at 5 to do it all over again. Weekends i have to do work to keep up with it. Teaching is so exausting- mentally, spiritually, physically. It probably sounds like i'm whining; i might be, but i'm completely worn out. This summer i don't want to think about teaching. I don't want to go back to school. I may take some classes from a local gallery.

no, i feel burnt out all the time. i'm tired of teaching other people's children. I'm not looking forward to fall b/c it's with an age group i don't enjoy and a grade i do not like teaching. But i signed a contract and they can put me where ever they choose
