Are you against homeschooling in general?no, i'm against homeschooling in some cases. I think it can be a very good thing, but like anything there's a right way and attitude and a wrong way and attitude. somtimes i don't think it's best for the kid; the parents are only doing it b/c they are control freaks, or are spiteful b/c of their own school experience and it's more about them and their feelings than the best thing for the child.Do you think it's a good idea to require those who homeschool to get teaching credentials? hmmm maybe not a degree, but perhaps some training. or maybe some college exposure. I went to a Christian college where about 80% of the people there , including my roommate, were homeschooled. And many of them were homeschooled by parents that either only had a highschool education or didn't even have a highschool edu. It was a little scary and it was hard to relate to them. I went to a public school so I was already a "bad" person in their eyes. that sort of judgement is ridiculous. But i had a higher GPA than all of them so i guess i won or something, whatever. But the attitude i see from some homeschoolers that they are passing on to their kids is quite disgusting. The parenting section here supports my views on this. Christian parents that homeschool show a lot of hatred and unfairness towards schools and teachers. I observe this in my church as well. One kid in my choir class is homeschooled and everytime his mom sees me at church she goes over and over lecuring me about how terrible public schools are and harping on how terrible children in public schools are and implying how terrible i am b/c i'm a teacher. And not only am i a teacher i'm single, so that's God showing his displeasure towards me of course. But, her child is the worst behaved in my choir. He won't listen , won't follow directions, is openly rude to me and the other teacher, hits kids, runs around and screams when they are supposed to be singing. (he's the only one homeschooled, btw) When i raised my concerns to the mom, she blew me off and somehow turned it around to how i was a public school teacher. No wonder your kid is how he is!!!!! The lady over me: the choir directer of the whole program says he's very close to being kicked out of everything at church so it's nothing at all about me and my fault. I'm like that is a situation where the parent is SOOO obsessed with how right she is for homeschooling that she doesn't care who she hurts in the process even her own child. poor kid. Not all homeschoolers are like this, there are many that really help their kids learn , love to learn, and equip them for life, but i think a lot of parents do it for their own reasons instead of actually helping their child. That said, i would homeschool my children given the opportunity.
