He was beaten to death with a red pool-stick.

Or he hit his head on a stick while diving into a red pool.
nope

Hard to die of a tiny pool stick, and what's a swimming pool doing in a alley?
I thought it might be hard to get ink poisoning, but you never know!

Anyway, I've got it.

He was lying in a red pool reactor! The little red stick was a fuel rod (or a control rod). Though those rods are generally quite large...
nope

Surely an alley is an irresponisible place to put a pool reactor...
He tried to pole-vault to the roof and missed?
nope

With a tiny pole? That's insanity.

I'm thinking it's a deliberate error: it's not a red pool of blood, but it is a red pool. BUT OF WHAT?!
Quite so...

nope.
(in that situation, beats me)

It's more of a fairly realistic situation, well, as murder mysteries go.
The gunshot wound to the head would have done it ^_^.
ok, there's nothing visibly wrong with the man other than he's dead.

Wiccan_Child, I've been posting these questions in a few of the threads on CF discussing Tipler's Omega point theory, and I was wondering if you knew anything about it? I have a book on the matter, but I haven't managed to read it yet. The Omega Point talks about the computational power of the universe, which is something I don't quite understand as a concept. My main objections to it would be:

1. What is the medium for storing information?
2. Wouldn't the organisation of said medium require something external to the universe (much like how a hard drive has to be prepared by an external organiser)?
3. Wouldn't the increase of information storage by the entire universe violate the second law of thermodynamics?

Hmmm, sounds familiar.

Except Tipler's Omega point theory is trying to prove the existence of God, so assuming the external organising force IS God (organising himself, come to think of it) is somewhat on the circular side.

It is? Wow. Can't wait for the results.

Maybe this is what God meant when He said "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness"...Gen 1:26.

This sounds very much like He is organizing Himself in a circular manner: It begins with God and ends with God.

I think I'll take a closer look at this 'Tipler' theory. It sounds like it might be on to something.

Don't hold your breath.

Not as such. That's about the creation of man. My objections to the Omega point God in terms of organisation is that you'd surely need something as powerful as God to render the universe to the point where it was God (infinite computational capacity).

"He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." (Colossians 1:17)

"For from him and through him and to him are all things." (Romans 11:36)

"Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." (John 1:3)

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End" (Revelation 21:6)

That's quite circular.

Urgh, because evaluating something based on your a priori assumptions, circular reasoning and bible verses instead of logic and data is so much better.

Forget it.
I guess biblical logic and biblical data doesn't count?

Define what those are first.

Anyway, this semantics game is largely moot, the only reason you're keen on Omega theory is because you think it'll give you the conclusions you've already decided are true to begin with.

According to the Bible (and confirmed by Hubble), the universe is expanding.

Does this mean it is getting colder (according to Boyle's Law)?

Also, is this why a can of compressed air grows colder as you spray it?

The Muslims, Hindus, and Zoroastrians make similar claims about their beliefs having specific knowledge that is now just being revealed by science. Seems like a case of wishful interpretation, much like so-called prophecies.

Interesting way you changed what I said there.

There. All tucked in, just for you. Yet, nothing's changed and your avoidance dance continues. I'm sure it's much more vibrant and lively in your head trying to keep facts and beliefs from colliding too violently.
