Actually I've just realised that if the cuts aren't specified as straight then I could just do this (view from top):
499237191_10232009_1.bmp
Then cut it in half sideways = 64 slices.
Ad infinitum. Till they got too small. hehe

Actually you could do a Nice Spiral cut for the first cut :ebil:
Then add a reverse spiral for the second.
And you've lost count of how many slices :D

What is the maximum number of slices can you obtain by cutting
a cake with only 4 cuts?

2[sup]4[/sup] = 16, so I'm going with sixteen.

Dare someone to do that at a Birthday party.

Pour cup #2 into cup #5. Then you have Full-Empty-Full-Empty-Full-Empty: they alternate.

A black dog stands in the middle of an intersecton in a town painted black. It's a new moon and the sky is cloudy. None of the street lights are working due to a power failure caused by a storm. A car with two broken headlights drives towards the dog but turns in time to avoid hitting him. How could the driver have seen the dog in time?
It was daytime. OR, it was nightime and the dog was radioactive (the glowy kind, not the gives-you-cancer kind).

You have a room with a closed door. In the room there are three lightbulbs. Outside, three switches (one for each lightbulb). You ca open the door once(when it is opened, you can no longer touch the switches.) How do you determine which switch is attached to which bulb?

I'm assuming you can't shut the door and manipulate the switches again, and that all the switches are in the same position, and all the bulbs are off.

I would flip one switch, wait for ages, then turn it off and turn another switch on. Then I'd go in the room.
The cold and dark bulb corresponds to the switch I never touched.
The bright bulb corresponds to the second switch I touched.
And the hot and dark bulb corresponds to the first switch I touched.

I'm gonna go with:

Switch one on.
Switch the next on, leave it a while, turn it off.
Leave the last one untouched.

Open the door.

Switch 1 is the one that's shining away.
Switch 2 is the one with the warm bulb.
Switch 3 is the one with the cold bulb.

ETA: Aww, ya beat meh

Okay. A little more difficult then:

Using lines, each circle is supposed to be connected to all three squares. There can be no gaps in the lines and no line can cross another line.

Can you solve it? It's easier if you draw it on a piece of paper.

It's impossible to solve ;).

No-one told me that, so I solved it. ;)
I can think of two solutions actually...

It just needs a little 'out of the box' thinking, that's all. I can provide you with the solution, but I'd rather you try a bit first :)
I can give you another hint of course...

Unless you do something funky with vertices and overlapping lines (e.g., one line linking multiple circles to a square), and so long as you stick to traditional methods (2D Euclidean surface, nine distinct lines, three and three distinct terminals, etc)... it's impossible.

How did you do it?

Check your PM :)

It DID take me a while though. I was presented with the problem when I was 20. I used it to trick my nieces into silence "Solve this and I'll give you a hundred kroner!" I'd say, and off they ran.
I know, I'm mean. It worked though. A couple of years back I sat down with it and pondered if there might not be a creative solution to it, and found it rather quickly. But I just used it to trick younger family members into silence when they were particularly noisy until then... Works like a charm actually.

Anything?

O.K.

I'll give you two problems:

1)A floating strawberry illusion is achieved with two parabolic mirrors, each having a focal length 7.5 cm, facing each other so that their centres are 7.5 cm apart. If a strawberry is placed on the lower mirror, an image of the strawberry is formed at the small opening at the center of the top mirror. Show that the final image is formed at that location and describe its characteristics.

2)Design a 10-hp 11:1 worm-gear speed-reducer mesh for a lumber mill planer feed drive for 3- to 10-h daily use. A 1720 rev/main squirrel-cage induction motor drives the planer feed (Ka = 1.25), and the ambient tempreture is 70F.

From what I've seen you know you're stuff and should find these easy.

Why do drive-thru ATM keypads have Braille on them?
images
You get drive-through ATMs????

Truly, yours is a sophisticated country ^_^.

My guess: it's a standard keyboard that is shipped to normal ATMs as well. Like a speedometer in a Ford KA that goes up to 120...

Manufactures make 1 type for both Drive through & walk in and install the same type in both locations.
(cheaper to manufacture 1 type then manufacture 2 types of keypads)
