  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey friends! So, I'm not sure if this is the right place, but here goes.

On my podcast, I've started a new series called Ask A Pastor (thankfully, I have many friends and family in pastoral ministry). And what I'd love is some questions. Now as a heads up, most of the pastors I know are coming from a protestant/evangelical perspective (denominationally baptist and AGC).

I've been able to find a bunch online, but I prefer having direct ones from people.

So if you have any questions you'd like pastoral insight on, please post em here, and they will get answered on a future episode :)

Hope y'all are having a blessed day :)

For anyone interested, in the first episode of the series, we looked at if Jesus spent time in hell after his sacrifice on the cross/before his resurrection and the KJV only theology/movement.

Some of the questions lined up have to do with divorce, suicide, if Mary was a perpetual virgin (and if it matters), purgatory, if you can lose your salvation, homosexuality, and transgender identity.

I'd love your guys questions, and please, your prayers for these episodes.

What's a "perpetual virgin"?

Basically, someone who remains a virgin their whole life. With Mary, it's a (mostly Catholic) doctrine that she remained a virgin after the birth of Christ.

Were you asking me directly, or adding a question? Sorry if I misunderstood.

I was just asking...never heard that term before.

Sounds like you could just say virgin.

Fair enough :)

When it comes to Mary, she's often referred to as The Virgin Mary (or Mary the mother of Jesus to differentiate her from Mary Magdalene - why am I adding this when you know this? I don't know, but here we are) - even by people who don't believe she remained a virgin after giving birth, so I went with the 'perpetual' line.

Ahhh...ok. That makes more sense now. So here's a follow up question...does it matter? I understand why some argue her virginity before conception...with virgin birth's association with divinity. Why would it matter afterwards? Symbolically?

And does anyone ever think...."Poor Joe, cuckolded by god."?

Just realized I never responded. To the first question, it will be a sub question for the pastor - but my personal opinion is that no, she wasn't a virgin after - she and joseph had other kids - but, no, it doesn't really matter.

To the second, I don't think anyone thinks that.
