Can you give me another definition of Paganism that does not classify Hinduism as a Pagan Religion?

We talk a lot.Dennis Moore said:I'm insanely jealous of you pagans. My "ask a Humanist" thread barely made it to 3 pages. You all have 16. What's your secret? It's the skyclad and ice cream thing, isn't it?
Kaonashi said:I understandstand about Paganism being a umbrella term. I am reading a interesting article on Witchvox about the difference between Paganism as a religion and magic. I figured I would see what you guys thought about it.
That depends on the path/tradition. An old-school druid may spend 6 years at a beginning level. With traditional Wiccan traditions they usually require a year and a day dedication period before you actually join the religion so you adequately understand the practices, beliefs, etc. before officially becoming an initiate. If I wanted to become a Pagan do I need to do a conversion or something?
Lovehound said:"And just a side note. God said not to have any gods before Him because He does not want us following things that dont exist."
Actually I think I WILL tackle this one after all.
No, He said not to have any Gods before Him because, in His words, He is a JEALOUS GOD -- not because He doesn't want people following things that supposedly don't exist.
His own words. If they didn't exist, He wouldn't be jealous of them, would He?

If our hearts stray from God, then I believe that it is cause for Him to be jealous. It doesn't matter so much whether our hearts stray to worship something else that is real, or only an idea, as either are cause for jealousy. His desire is for us to love Him with all of our hearts, mind, soul, and strength.
Krysia said:I've always wondered how the Christian God, which Christians hold as an all-good, all-powerful, perfect deity, could have petty human failings like jealousy.
Blessings,

As the only reference for jealousy that humans have is our own jealousy, it seems only reasonable that they would use it as a point of comparison when considering God's jealousy. If that is not a reasonable comparison, perhaps God should have used a different word when describing Himself. Redefining a word just because it's being used in reference to God strikes me as dubious.
In the Bible when God is referred to as jealous, the Hebrew word qanna' is used. It is only used in the Bible 6 times, in 5 different verses. The Hebrew word qin'ah was used to refer to jealousy when speaking of humans.pensive said:God chose to refer to Himself as jealous when talking to humans.
