Let me rephrase; creatio ex nihilo is an invalid explanation.
Wikipedia disagrees:
Ex nihilo when used outside of a religious/metaphysical context also refers to something coming from nothing. For example, in a conversation, one might raise a topic "ex nihilo" if it bears no relation to the previous topic of discussion. The term also has specific meaning in military and computer-science contexts.

Note: "Ex nihilo", not "creatio ex nihilo.".

Saying everything was created from nothing provides absolutely no explanation as to how everything was "created".
That's because it's the bottom-line explanation.

And, once again, is an acceptable explanation --- even if one disagrees with it.

It's not a valid explanation, though.

If I broke down on the M25, goblins eating my engine would be an explanation. Magic holding my car in place would be an explanation. A Jedi in the car behind using the force to stop my car would be an explanation. My car being a sentient being, capable of free thought, deciding it can't be bothered to go any farther would be an explanation.

I can think of two: Adam and Eve.

What about anyone on ecstasy? At least temporarily. But yeah. You're right. Though it depends on how much of a parable their time in the garden is. And whether the garden was in this universe or not. Could be an alternate/parallel universe. Or whatever. Pure speculation anyway. Can't really verify it.

I don't need one.

Nah, probably not. One psychologist and one teacher however...

Then I submit you're creating a mental block that you won't be able to get around.

If you refuse to accept creatio ex nihilo, you'll never understand Genesis 1.

Ya --- I can clearly see why you guys don't understand.

I asked a simple YES or NO question and got a full-page ad.

Now he wants me to address it, and it's not going to happen.

Sorry but reality isn't always just yes or no. That's what us grown ups have to deal with every day!

No matter how much you kick and scream and hold your breath, sometimes you have to pay attention to the answer when someone provides it.

Especially when you ask.

Surely you mean "If you refuse to accept creatio ex nihilo, you'll never accept Genesis 1", because I understand Genesis 1, perfectly.

"Goddidit."

or "God made everything ex nihilo!".

AV, does it make your day brighter to insist others don't understand whatever deep truth you obviously have understood?

Sorry if that sounded harsh, but AV, your insistence that everyone else doesn't understand does sound quite arrogant.

Atheism is the very definition of close-mindlessnes...lol
Maybe I need to get out more or something, but I can't believe people are actually like this.

I keep telling myself (I really do) that they're just pulling my leg.

Um ...
"Goddidit."
Now we're getting somewhere.
...or "God made everything ex nihilo!".
Not in Genesis 1, He didn't.

Some things were made ex materia.

See, this is precisely what I'm talking about.

You guys and your preconceived notions and attitudes are just confusing yourselves --- not us.

I don't doubt that one bit.

How does it feel when someone glosses over your "full page ad" of information, AV? Does it feel good?

Because that is clearly what you want people to do.

I mean you pay so much lip service to Jesus I can only imagine that Luke 6:31 is tattooed on the inside of your eyelids!

"Deep truth?"

Wikipedia explains it perfectly, yet that's not good enough for some; and they want me to sort it out for them.

The difference is though, they prove it.

Unless they're just pulling my leg --- so you must know something I don't.
