Is it morally right for a parent to prevent the use of a full college scholarship (awarded solely for academic merit) for a secular university to force the child to attend a Christian college which the parent finds more morally acceptable?
The world = majority of people living on this planet. This probably should be defined better.
The first part of the verse says "Do not worship any other god". Throughout the Bible, worshiping other gods is likened to adultery. And the second part of the verse "for the LORD . . . is a jealous God." Imagine being married to someone. You see them flirting with someone else, and you feel jealousy. In the same way, God sees you "flirting" with other gods, and is jealous. In our culture, "jealous" has negative connotations: "Oh you're just jealous!" But jealousy for the right reasons shouldn't be considered wrong: is a husband wrongly jealous when he sees his wife flirting with another man?Indeed. I am truly hoping that one of these philosophers are able to give me an insightful response, instead of giving me multiple definitions of the word jealous.
No.
It isnt the parents life, it is the kids, who is now a young adult.
I would not say He is like that. I would say He is right to expect sometimes we will not just satisfy our pleasure as the first priority. Wisdom always demands that sort of self control.
The parent gave birth to and spent 18 years of their life raising that 'young adult'. Like someone should have their daughter get brainwashed in a liberal arts class and turn into a persecuted feminist hipster after all that.
You don't believe in letting young adults think on their own? It seems you are instead advocating having them brainwashed by their parents.
This doesn't give you ownership over a kid. What are they supposed to pay you for that time? If anybody feels obligated to take care of their children to that extent, they shouldn't have children in the first place. The parent gave birth to and spent 18 years of their life raising that 'young adult'. Like someone should have their daughter get brainwashed in a liberal arts class and turn into a persecuted feminist hipster, or a son into an insufferable atheist apologist.
