The definiton of "music", from many different sources, can be paraphrased as "pleasurable noice". If a person does not find it pleasurable, then it is not music to them. Any such judgment is subjective, and to say "its still music" is implying a (false) objectivity.

the only problem is that she created this thread for people who like ashlee. not to discuss whether she's good enough or not.

if people were to talk trash about an artist you liked...you wouldn't like it. if she likes ashlee, then just leave it at that.

When bands liike Phish, Grateful Dead and The Beatles are discussed.....that is a music section, as I suggested before if you moved this to the teen section, you probably would get more respect....

WOW...you act as if Ashlee Simpson is the ONLY musician I like! I post ALL over the secular music thread about OTHER bands that I like...such as Phish, The Beatles, DMB, Incubus...so don't go on assuming (or implying) that I'm some "pop music loving teen," when, in fact, Ashlee Simpson is about the only "pop/rock" music I enjoy!

That's cool if you like her. But we are free to discuss whether we like her music or not. It's when it gets rude that things need to change. Right now things seem fine to me though.

I dont think that anyone can really judge what is "good" music and what is "bad" music. Everyone enjoys different types, I dont think people would be too happy if everyone liked the same kind of everything, so I think that people should state whatever they feel like stating only they shouldn't criticize (sp?) the person for liking that type of thing..if that makes sense...im sure it doesnt but whatever i jus like to post!

Well I can't say I'm a fan. I've watched her show and heard her music. It's not horrible, but it's not the best I've ever heard. It is kind of obvious that the reason she even has a record deal is because of her dad and because of her sister's name that she's recognized.

Also with the lyric writing- it's fairly good. It is just exactly what most teenage girls feel. I am more fond of bands and singers that can actually write the music to their songs though. Seems like there is more talent in writing the music and the lyrics than just writing some words and putting it to muisc-- not to bash that at all because I have many singers and bands I like that do the same thing.

Overall, not the best, but not the worst.

Then you probably should've made a better choice in that section. My opinion has changed a bit. Listening to her CD was in itself, not worth my time. Yesterday I saw her on the MTV VMA's pre-show. She was terrible. The CD is digitalized and professional so it sounds better but in concert and live showings- she goes off tune, sings shaky and overall just gives a poor show of vocal talent and of performing.


OldRooster makes a point... life it too short. If you've got talent, all the more to you (i.e. Celine Dion). If you're Ashlee Simpson, do something you actually can do well.
