  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I would like to point out that, by this definition, being asexual can easily mean that you are not sexually attracted to anyone you know.

Maybe the person who makes you hot is just around the corner? :D

But, if you turn out to be really asexual... well, who cares? Some people are different in a "different" way, so to say. ;)

I have to agree. The implication that if sex isn't part of someone's life they somehow "fail" is pretty ridiculous, but that's the way a lot of people view it it seems. Seems to be a very American thing, point in fact. Well, people "failing" at life, I mean.

I personally have never really been able to wrap my brain around asexuality. I know, in theory, an asexual person has no desire for sex with another person, but I was never really able to imagine what that would be like. However, my personal inability to understand or relate to it doesn't make it any less legitimate.

From what I understand, asexuality is a "factory setting" in much the same way that heterosexuality, homosexuality, or bisexuality is. Therefore, for at least some asexual people, asexuality is innate and unchangeable. I would imagine that there may be some people who understand themselves to be asexual but are not thusly "factory-set" and they might change in the future, but by no means should they feel obligated to do so.

Generally, I tend to feel that sex, either the presence or the lack thereof, is the business of the individual(s) involved.

I don't think I could be called asexual, but since two years ago I don't see much meaning to the whole sexuality thing. Thoughts still come to my mind about this or that girl being pretty; I tried to ignore them and it worked, however, I contemplated the idea of being "normal" again and do feel different. Unfortunately, I've found no way to get rid of the lustful thoughts. Mostly, I think they make me waste time, and I'd like to channel my energy to other things e.g., philosophy.
