  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Articles of Impeachment

What will be the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump?

The Senate is never going to convict, and will then it into a show trial that they can use to boost their campaigns. I was actually against impeachment from the beginning because of it.

Or perhaps there will be enough testimony or evidence that shows there is enough doubt to say we can't definitively say he did something they claim. Maybe once all is said and done enough Americans will say the Democrats should never have tried this.

I guess we'll see

Americans are making up their minds now, way too early in the process, about whether the Democrats in Congress are wasting their time or not. Those who say Democrats should not try to impeach him with the Senate being controlled by Republicans were in favor of impeachment two years ago.

To be fair this was a lose lose for democrats, chances are no matter what evidence trump won't be impeached, but at the same time, trumps behaviour here was bad enough to not do something sets a bad presecedent. Least if the impeachment fails, it can be argued it was nothing more then republicans refusing to stand up to law.

So a censure is essentially a statement by one or both houses of Congress condemning actions taken by a member of the executive branch. It has absolutely no legal effect, but has only happened once before, and as such is considered a huge political blow.
In other times perhaps but now....I'd hardly think so. It's all just baked in the knowing that the Dems were wanting to impeach him the hour he took office. Actually even before that in a sense as they were desperately checking under ever rock with a voter recount which they backed and participated in with Green Party, Jill Stien.

Well of course they'll argue it. Will the country accept such reasoning however? Perhaps. Perhaps not. We'll see who's the next President and what the Congress looks like as members of the House come up for re-election. A very big risk they're taking but if it back fires on them never let it said they weren't warned or that a part of them didn't know better.

What is a kangaroo court?

It's a complaint that was fabricated by the right after the whole "super dooper secret Democratic hearings" fairy tale fell flat. Now that the transcripts from those have been released, the open hearings are a show trial and a kangaroo court.

The probabililty of impeachment is almost 100% - it would be a shocker if he is not tried in the Senate.

What is a kangaroo court?
A court that ignores recognized standards of law or justice, and carries little or no official standing. The term is thought to have been coined by Australian miners who participated in the California gold rush to describe the rough frontier justice they found there which leapt like a kangaroo to verdicts.

Which is why the Democrats impeached him the second they took the House... oh wait.

I watched all four constitutional law professers (not students) make their opening statements. The first to testify, Noah Feldman, clealry explained what "high crimes or misdemeanors" means: abusing the powers of the office. He told the story about why impeachment was put in the Constitution: to keep the president under the law like everyone else. Michael Gerhardt expanded on this one, stressing, "The president is not above the law." So the only people who can deny Trump committed high crimes or misdemeanors are the most ignorant Republicans with no knowledge about Article 2 Section 4.
