I thought it would be cool to start a thread entitled Arrow Prayers.
What exactly are Arrow Prayers? You remember Cupid? I know this already sounds silly, but hold on. Whenever Cupid wanted someone to fall in love he would shoot an arrow of love right into his victim's heart and immeditately that person would be smitten with romantic feelings.
What does that have to do with prayer? Think of our Lord Jesus. Every day Jesus is wounded with two different kinds of arrows. The first is the Arrow of Hatred. These arrows have names like blasphemy, accusation, taking His name in vain, rejection, sin...Oh so many sharp arrows aimed staright at Jesus' heart. No wonder why Christ says in Psalms "Scorn has broken My heart!"
The second arrow of course is the Arrow of Love. These arrows are simple "one liners," prayers we offer when were going about our daily tasks, driving the car, doing dishes etc. They are softly spoken words of love. Now when you're riding down the street and you just shoot a simple Arrow Prayer straight at Jesus' heart such as "I love You Jesus!" Think of what that does for Him? I mean after hearing His name being taken in vain by millions I don't think it a stretch of the imagination to think He would react much like Cupid's victim being smitten by the Valentine Arrow.
We catch a glimpse of this in The Song of Solomon, "You have wounded My heart, My sister, My Bride with one glance from your eye, one jewel from your necklace."
Also the Gospel contains passages that show us this joy of Jesus. Have you pictured His joy when people "got it (Him)?" The Canannite women, "Oh woman great is your faith!" The return of the Apostles after their missionary journey..."At that same hour Jesus rejoiced."
How about we join together and aim some Love Arrows in His direction today?
I'll start the first Arrow Prayer:
"Thank You Jesus for being with me today."
Your turn!
I love YOU Jesus!
