  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My daughter is now a Cpl in the Marine Corps, and yes...we have quite a few laughs...

how churlish of you to assume or even think otherwise...and yet another example of how you just don't seem to "get it" based on your own failing to cut the mustard!
churlish.....GREAT WORD!!!! I think I'll use that as the word of the day tomorrow...:D

You know, I still have every letter my recruits have sent me. I keep every one of them in my desk and go back and read them from time to time. Every once in awhile, my recruits will come back and visit me. We'll reminisce and get a good laugh at the letters they sent.

Thank you for your service and I thank you for your daughter's service. I can't express in words the gratitude for not only you and your daughter, but all my brothers and sisters standing on the wall of freedom alongside me. Thank you.

Also, don't know if you noticed, but I used one of the reputation remarks you sent me. I sent you a rep. Thanks again. I love it! I would say Semper Fi, but how about a HOOAH!!! :D

I happen to have gone thru 2 branches of the military. The Army and the Marines.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in both and had absolutely NO problems physically and mentally accepting the challenges set before me.
While in the Army I consistently met the maximum required for my PT tests, Was 2nd to no one, and did much the same in the Marines.
I broke my back in an unexpected accident and seperated earlier than I wanted to.

It is very bothersome to come in here and see posts like these consistently bad mouthing the Military due to having a poor experience. The blameshifting is beyond comprehension.
Hey bro, I sent you a PM, but once again I wanted to thank you for your service. It's not your fault you were misled from the Army to the Marine Corps....LOL....I'm kidding :D

Seriously, thank you for your service.

Also, I agree 100% with your reply post. ;)

I'm glad you like those...if you want more let me know...I'm free to make graphics *next* weekend ... overtime stretch this week LOL...

thanks for the reps :D

It was rather funny when she got home from boot and found her letters in a scrapbook I'd made for her...with pics from PI from my days there as to what she had been doing according to the letter dates...

She read her first 2 letters home and about died laughing herself...

Thank you for your service...men like you carrying on the traditions are what makes our military great...even if ya are in the Army :p

Though...I must confess...I'm a Zoomie brat....and my poor father is still shaking his head...quite often ... on his Jarheaded daughter and grandaughter...and just exactly "where" did he go "wrong"

:D

Every now and then, there's always one person who has a tendency to give the wrong impression. I don't want you to think that you can't come to this forum and feel that it's not a safe place for members of the military or the family/friends of loved ones to come here and chat.

I do apologize for rppearso's brash comments. The ignorancy of one person shouldn't be assumed for everyone else in here. I do apologize once again.
No problem, I will continue to read in here and post once in a while.

I think the way you handled the situation in your first post was admirable. It is those other people's loss for not wanting to sit down and hear from one who serves and then come to a more educated opinion of what the military is about.

Oh, at this point, my son really likes the Army though it is another month before he gets to his first duty station. He went to BCT knowing that there would be mind games and that is something that he can play along with with ease. He has been treated well at AIT, just ready for the next step and looking forward to it.

Oh yea, definitely! Any graphics are great! Thank you once again. I understand about *next* weekend. It seems like my weekends are spent trying to fit 20 pounds of junk in a 10 pound bag..haha!

A scrapbook was nice. I bet your daughter really enjoyed that. My wife is all into scrapbooking. She's been scrapbooking my military career from the very beginning. And, of course, our 2 boys' lifes as well. The scrapbooks are very nice.

I can only imagine how often your father is shaking his head :D I'm sure he's as proud as any father and grandfather could be.

My grandfather served in the Marine Corps, also. Everytime I go home to visit, I always here the jokes. It's all out of good humor. It's so fun to go back and forth about the Army and Marine Corps with him. I hope you don't find my jokes here and on the Military Humor thread offensive....

Thank you. The last thing I want to do is offend someone. Recruiting is like Public Relations and Public Affairs. The minute I offend someone, my name is tarnished and it spreads like wildfire throughout the community. All I can do is hope to have a mature and intelligent conversation with someone to discuss the facts, not the preconceived notions.

I'm glad to hear your son is doing well. I'm sure he is ready to finish up his training and get to his first duty assignment. Did you attend his gradution from Basic?

Wow thats really sad, if I were her I probably would have politly minimized my contact with you after I got out. If she was sending letters home that a DI thought were hilarious it does not sound like she was fully informed, maybe im wrong but only you know that. Is it worth loosing your relationship with your daughter just to continue the military family tradition. The military is not a joke and neither is the training. It is bothersome that it is discussed so lightly on here, people can come out of training with mental problems and severe injurys. I dont know how things are if she is out of training now and if things are good with you and your daughter.

He could have told her everything and given her a detailed journal of everything that will happen to her in Recruit Training but it wouldn't have helped one bit. Getting told about what its like to get slayed on the quarterdeck is alot different than actually getting slayed on the quarterdeck. You have to go through it to understand, it's the only way. In essence, she could never be really informed. Anyways, Recruit Training isn't that hard as long as you have the heart. It's 10% physical, 90% mental and its all about putting out.

I hear ya there...and no...I'm not offended at all...
Can't remember if I've mentioned it or not but my brother in law is Army as well...Thanksgiving is quite funny when you get the entire family together...the only group not represented are the Puddle Pirates :D:D

Yes we did! My oldest flew down to surprise him too. Probably won't make it down to AIT though, but he is okay with that.

He went in with eyes wide open too. He was told straight up by his recruiter and also talked to many who have served or are serving. I and he feel that independent research was also important, about the MOS and about the military in general.

Absolutely! Gotta do research no matter what plans you have in life. Whether it be buying a house, renting an apartment, buying a car, whatever the case may be. I encourage all potential recruits to do their homework.

Not to worry about AIT graduation. It's basically a "congratulations, here's your diploma and certificate" kind of ceremony. Basic is the ceremony to be at. I still remember mine. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! LOL

Basic grad does give one chills. It was great going and then the DS comes out on stage, gives the command and the whole Company takes that step in unison and they were back stage, then they came out marching to cadence. There were more times, but you remember that first spine tingling chill.

Yep, attending a Basic grad gives one pride in our Armed Forces. I think it is because you know so much about one particular Soldier and you know what they have gone through in Basic and then to see the Company is wow.

I an sure you encourage the families of your recruits to go to their child's grad. Also, encourage them to go to the swearing in at MEPS, not as spectacular, but a good thing to do. We saw a few kids there with no one there and they were kind of wishing someone was there for them. One kind of latched onto us as kind of surrogate parents.

Okay, when I posted what became post #30, I posted at 6:20 a.m. on Monday morning. This post should be post #32 and I am posting it at 6:26 a.m. Monday morning. The time and date stamp is showing Sunday around 12 noon. I am going to try not to post any more until this gets fixed as it makes threads confusing.

Post 30 and 31 should be turned around.

Doing some checking there is still some kinks to work out due to Saturday's problems.

What solicited their words, I have absolutely no idea. Like I said, they declined my invitation for a free lunch.
Weird. Did they know you bes a recruiter? If not, maybe they thought in some twisted way they bes sympathizing with you or something? Who knows....
Moriah's son just enlisted & ships off to boot next month. It would like to find his recruiter and wring his neck! :p Kidding. Actually it bes very excited for him (though it cannot deny being nervous about him eventually being put in harm's way, what mother wouldn't be?) and hope he finds everything there he bes looking for to help him shape and hone his life and to master himself.
