In an Israeli newspaper, I read this
"Jewish sources say that the Ark will be discovered a short time before the coming of the Messiah. Nachmanides wrote that the Ark would be discovered "during the construction of the Temple or in future wars before the coming of the Messiah king." Rabbi Getz also believed that finding the Ark and/or Temple artifacts would serve as a catalyst for the coming of the Messiah"
(April 14 Haeretz)

Being near Easter, this is an important topic. I feel that the ark was in Herod's temple, despite the missing records of this, and was taken to heaven. We read of it being seen there in Revelations.
This makes a lot of sense, as it represented the very presence of God, so it's taking away then would have great meaning. Of course when Jesus died, God had the veil of the temple ripped from the top on down, exposing that there was now nothing inside! Next time we hear of it is in heaven
Re 11:19 - And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
To my knowledge, there is not any official Jewish record of the veil being torn, let alone the ark missing. In fact I think the opposite extreme may be true in that records were disposed of or cleaned that even place the ark there at all. This I think is why it is a mystery today.
That is what I think happened to the ark, I have no doubts.
Yet, I agree with the article here, in that an 'ark' may be 'found' in the end. I have read other stories saying even it was secretly in storage, and will be revealed soon.
If true, how could this be explained? There was, apparently a replica ark that ended up in Ethiopia, a gift to Sheba's son, apparently.
Back in the days of an Israeli operation to airlift black Ethiopian Jews from Ethiopia to Israel, some reported that the 'ark' was secured also, and transported to Israel.
If an ark is 'discovered' or 'revealed' there and claimed to be the real one I believe it will be this replica. Even the dates are close here, if carbon dated, as well as the materials, so it would not be possible to tell the difference. Unless we knew the real one was in heaven!!
