The School Itself isnt Bad, as Far as The Education You Receive... but Man: i do not Enjoy The City. as For The Campus, you Actually Think it Looks Nice? Have You Been Down There?

No, I am not involved in anything on campus. If I was I would be doing stuff with the Newman Center. But my girlfriend and I do stuff with our parish and with a Catholic pro-life group.

We support our local sports. Living in Tucson has us routing for our teams. As for the administration, academia, architecture both institutions have pro's and con's. My preference of location is Tucson.

A bit off topic, but I was wondering how ASU was? I'm planning on transfering next year to a Uni (either NAU, U of A or ASU). The problem is, I don't want to goto some liberally obsessed school like the U of A where 7/10 women have 1+ STD...

I'm studying Network Technologies at Cochise. If I transfer to ASU, I'm hoping to get something like Pre-Law or Business law and then if I get real lucky transfer to a law school. That's how I got it planned out anyways...

But like, I've got a unique past education . I dropped out of highschool, well a christian school at that, and I had already started going to college when I was in highschool so I just switched to full time.. Highschool is kind of boring after about 10th grade...

I Visited all The Campuses. NAU Was Very Pretty, but i Didnt Like How Everything Was Spaced Out. nor do i Like Cold Weather. And Their Engineering Program isnt Nearly as Good as ASU's. U of A's programs Arnt Bad... but i Dont Really Like The City of Tucson, and i didnt Think The UofA campus Was nice... just dirt. could Use more Trees and stuff. *shrugs*

Hi All,

I'm an ASU Alumni. I graduated in '92 with my BSE in Mechanical Engineering. I felt I had a good education. I originally wanted to go to what I thought was a better school like Berkeley or Colombia, but opted to go to ASU since I had a full ride plus. I had saved about $40k to go to college and even with the scholarships I had, going to Colombia I would've still come out tens of thousands of dollars in debt, which I didn't want. When I graduated, I had only $3k debt and paid that off rather quickly. There should've been no debts, but I screwed up my finances in college.

Some of the things I was involved in while there was: Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) my first year. Latter years Baptist Student Union (BSU) with Keith & Debbie leading (can't remember their last names). Had lots of fun. I was also very involved with the professional societies like ASME (American Society for Mechanical Engineers), SWE (Society of Women Engineers), IEEE (Electrical Engineering Prof. Society), SPS (Society of Physics Students...I think), Toastmasters. Also played co-ed racquetball intercollegiately for my last 2 yrs.

Probably should've stayed to continue into my master's, but I was sick of school and broke. Was so wanting to work. I'm still an engineer. Worked for 4 companies in the 12 yrs I've been out (7 jobs).

I don't regret going to ASU at all. You basically get what you put into your education. I screwed around my first 1.5 yrs, hence I had to make up for it with going longer (and because I was so involved in many things). Got also involved in Engineering politics. College was fun and I got to meet a lot of people in school and professionally. I have many college friends that I still keep in contact with and some I work with professionally.

Although I was sick of school, I also loved it at the same time. I work at a company where they employ people who have gone to more expensive schools. We may get some slight pay difference, but one difference is that I practically got out with so little debt and they had to pay many years for their education.

My goal is to retire before I'm 40 as an engineer and go to my next profession.

Make the most of the time you have in school. Study hard, play hard, make friends of all kinds, be a blessing to others.

Oh...I have lived in Arizona all my life. I LOVE Arizona. This is an awesome state.

I forgot to share some other things regarding me being at ASU. Since I came from a super strict family and was the oldest, when I left home to go to ASU, I went nuts and rebelled. I threw out all the values my parents taught me and partied, drank some (no drugs though), and lost my virginity (a big mistake) for the first 1.5 yrs. My grades got so bad that I got put on probation and was going to flunk out (I graduated Valedictorian from high school and was All American, etc and one of Arizonas most promising when I graduated in '86).

One night I realized the error of my ways, asked God to forgive my backsliding, and repented. I worked so hard the next 4.5 yrs and when I graduated, my GPA was still under a 3.0. It was a miracle that I graduated because I failed a couple of my upper engineering classes and upon retaking that classes, still only got C's. It was hard and I was not as focused as I needed to be.

God had grace on this young woman as I sought him those 4.5 yrs. I went to a fundamentalist Baptist church that grounded me very well in God's Word, but didn't really impart or show me much about forgiveness, grace, and mercy. During my time at this church, I got really involved in Bus Ministry & Children's ministries and God grew me. This church felt like the marines or something. It was what I needed at the time and God bless this church.

Oh, forgot to share the $40k I saved for college, well, I spent all that money within the first year, lost all my scholarships....and had to work throughout the rest of college. My parents did help me my last year, as I had gotten too stressed out and they were worried that my health would fail, so I quit my job that I had at UPS for nearly 3 yrs. That was an awesome place to work that paid well with great benefits for part-time, but it was highly stressful.

When I graduated, it was near the bottom of the recession in the early 90s. Tough time, but God gave me a job that didn't pay all that great. The company was small, people smoked, swore, and I was the youngest there....a woman. I got laid off 1.25 yrs later and I was so glad because that job was so humilitating, but humbling. I learned a great deal and glad God allowed me to go through that. Then, a Christian friend of mine recommended me for a temp job a few months later and I got the job working as a Validation Engineer for a pharmeceutical company. It paid even less than my prior job, but was a job and I needed the money. They began laying off people, but somehow God saw fit to allow me to transfer to another permanent position within that company (Job #3 within 3 yrs). BTW, this company was in North Phx (near Bell/7th) and I lived in Gilbert. What a commute.

I continued to pray that God would bless and in May'95, by God once again being gracious to me, I got an interview with Intel and got hired in Jul'95. I tried to get into Intel many different times through friends or people I knew, but they all failed. I got a phone call because the manager got my name from their database. Isn't that a miracle? And, the things I studied for the interview I had just learned those things a couple days before with something I read. Another miracle.

Once I got hired into Intel, I thought, how can I compete against these super smart people? Within 3 yrs later, I had gotten ranked and rated into the top 5% of the Intel Elite. I can't tell you what that means, and it was only by the grace of God. Sure, I worked hard, but I really owe the success I had at Intel to God...actually everything to God. In early '98, I felt God didn't want me to work at Intel any longer and had no clue what that meant. Later that year, it would become clear, and in obedience to God, I left and began working for my current company.

Intel is still my dream company, but I knew God no longer wanted me there. I have been blessed where I am, because the hours I keep allow me to have a good marriage and family life. My life at Intel was very hard, the hours were so long, and the competition so tough. My marriage was on the rocks there and led to a divorce shortly after I left (because I had an affair).

I got married in 2000 and also had our daughter a few months later. God has shown great mercy and grace upon my life. He's given me a wonderful husband who loves Him. God has been so good to us, despite some very bad choices we've made in life.

That's my testimony. If you allow God to use you, He will. It just took me awhile to realize some things and be humbled. Although I was humbled in some areas of my life, I wasn't submitted in all areas. God wants all areas of our lives and if you won't submit, then Him causing things so that you will submit...let's say, it hasn't been easy for me.

God is so good. My husband and I have become better listeners and doers for Christ as we grow older. May God bless your life.
