Yet that 'drunk' was the only one to find grace in the eyes of the LORD.It's the 121st year that mattered, though.

Through Noah's preaching, I'm sure many (if not all) got saved.

As they say, there are no atheists in foxholes, and Noah would have given them the One to report to for salvation.

I thought everyone ended up in Hell before Jesus came along anyway, so Noah's life of preaching was a bit of a waste of 120 years!

They did --- but there was a twist.

Hell in the Old Testament consisted of Hell (proper) and Paradise, with a huge gulf between the two places.

The Bible makes it clear that Jesus is our 'firstfruits.'

Prior to Jesus' resurrection, anyone dying in the Old Testament went either to Hell (proper) or Paradise.

The witch at Endor in the Old Testament called Samuel up out of Paradise, but in the New Testament, when Paul was stoned to death outside of Lystra (Acts 14), we see Paul mentioning seeing Paradise in 'Third Heaven' (2 Corinthians 12).

Ephesians says Jesus 'led captivity captive' --- meaning He took Paradise up to Heaven.

Today, in New Testament times, Hell consists of Hell (proper) and the Great Gulf --- mentioned in Revelation.

Notice too that Jonah prayed from Hell (Paradise) --- meaning he must have died in the whale's belly.

QV Jonah 2, which is his prayer.

so you think Christianity is a religion powered by fear?
Yes --- but not the kind of fear that atheists are familiar with.
Proverbs 9:10 said:
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

So would you say that a goal in witnessing is to make Atheists afraid of God?

Creationists are obsessed with the idea that all scientists are atheists who secretly hate God, and that if they converted, they would immediately abandon their blasphemous science.

Of course, nothing could be further from the truth, but whatever.

I am an atheist and a soldier and I have seen combat. Same deal with the rest of my fire team, we were atheists before training and remained atheists after combat.

Congratulations --- I salute you!

Now you know what the VET stands for in my name.

Only I didn't see combat like you did.

Getting in late here--but back to the OP:

I don't know what Aristotle believed about air. My field is medicine. I do know that Hippocrates believed that the body was composed of 4 humors, blood, phlegm, black bile, and yellow bile. And disease was caused when these humors were out of balance. This idea, or some variation was pretty much the state of the art in medicine for centuries. It was the science of its day. And totally wrong. As was clearly shown by the development of cellular pathology in the 19th century. But here's the thing about real science. It will admit that many of its conclusions and specifics are tentative. And it will correct itself when new evidence clearly contradicts its earlier postulates. That's a big difference in science and religion. Good science is based on observation and experimentation, and is always subject to change. Religion is based on revelation and claims inerrancy. It will never admit that its teachings and beliefs could be wrong. And it's obvious that we have obtained overwhelmingly more accurate and useful information about our world through the scientific method than all the religious myths in history have ever provided.
