And once again, the victimizer becomes the "victim."

Well, y'know, us scientists are evil and wrong.

But yet we're still gifts from God and he loves us all so huggy muggy much!

It's like the testimony of a wife-beater, only with more science and references to hiking.

That's the most major hurdle scientists [everybody, in fact] need to clear.

Understanding where they stand with God, and what they can do about it.

Don't flatter yourself - your opinion on what we do is not the same as God's.

I know exactly where I stand with a God, there is no such thing as a God so there is nothing I need to do about any God or Gods.
Had I been indoctrinated into believing there was a God when I was young I would obviously feel differently, I would fear death and Gods vengeance (a lovely word to associate with a loving God) for denying him, I would be afraid, but luckily for me no Gods were involved in my upbringing, I suppose I should say 'thank God'.

I was however indoctrinated to love steam engines for which I will remain eternally grateful.

I'm sure you weren't indoctrinated into believing the Coelacanth was extinct, or that Pluto was a dwarf planet, either.

Sure:

Did Aristotle discover that air has no mass?

Nope, discovery would imply investigation of air but back then investigation through experimentation wasn't done as a methodology for building up a picture of how the natural world works. Aristotle was a Philosopher not a Scientist, he applied logic to a phenomena and came to conclusions to how he though it should be not how they in fact were.

Perhaps then, Aristotle was taught that by his scientific peers?

No. His peers, maybe, but not his scientific peers, because as has already been told to you, there wasn't really anything scientific about it.

As Skaloop said "scientific" wouldnt really apply because Dialectical thought was applied over a broad range of subjects ranging from maths to politics. Aristotle worked over a wide range of these subjects.

The idea of science as a truly discrete form of study didn't really arise properly until the 18th century.

Just as you were indoctrinated into believing that witches should be burned at the stake, a Holy War should be waged to free the Holy Land from the Muslims, disobedient children should be stoned to death, and blasphemers should be tortured into abandoning their beliefs.

Light has no mass = scientific statement?

Air has no mass = scientific statement?

Air has no mass = scientific statement?

Nope. They're statements, of course, but when Aristotle said the second one, it wasn't scientific, it was philosophical.

As for the first one, it depends on who said it, and when. But whoever said it whenever, it's still wrong. And that, the evidencing of a hypothesis to be incorrect, is science.

So prior to the 18th century, there was no science?

Not in the current formalized methodology, no. Sure, there were things done that could have counted as science, but they did not have the formal methodology that we have now.
