I've decided to post a little thing about gaming. No doubt, i'm a gamer myself and i think it's safe to say i've been addicted in the past which is, usually not a good thing. :p

But here's my question to you which you should ask yourself. Are you addicted?

Games, like drugs can have a good hold on you. First, after a while of not playing, you can get a little restless inside. It's a small urge that will get you wanting to play something.

After a long time however that restlessness turns serious. Sweating palms, walking around the house idly (which can be funny to watch), even doing stuff thats completely unproductive. You'll feel horrible inside and very bored.

Are you game addicted? Is games taking up more of your time with your family and things that must be done?

Let's see how you do? Try the 30 day challenge. Go without games for 30 days. Can you do it? :)

We had this discussion last night in a Ultima Online chatroom. I, myself, use to be addicted. I would play literally 23 hours a day and sleep for the 1 hour downtime in the morning. Would do this for about 5 days before I would get too exausted and then sleep for about 14 hours. Then back to doing the 23 only stopping to eat and grab a shower once in a while, and other things that are needed like bathroom and soda runs. lol

But some people now days are worse off than I was. Their lives surround the game and nothing else. They barely ever walk outside and they have no real life friends. These are the people who spend $50-$60 or more a month on gaming accounts.

Especially in the guild I am in. They expect a lot from us being we are a merchant guild. But some of the things they expect are rediculas like spending 3 hours placing advertising bags around. I dunno about them, but I play this game for fun; and that isn't fun. :\

Addiction is hard to get over too. First you have to "admit you have a problem" then do something about it.

Racing games. He mostly does racing games. He has been responsible for a great many racing games, and yet I still forgive him. ;)

I seem to recall he did work on a James Bond related game, and I think he was at least partly responsible for Big Mother Truckers.

I used to be heavily addicted to Starcraft back when it first came out. A while ago I was MASSIVELY addicted to Tribes Aerial Assault for the PS2... but with some prayer time God help me to break that addiction, i just felt very far away from Him at that time from the gaming.

And it looks like I'm going to be addicted to Fable as soon as it comes out.. well, I'm learning gaming discipline.

I'm a "recovering" MMORPGer, myself. Kinda funny, I posted on another thread before I saw this one...talking about this same thing.

Personally, online gaming has become sin, to me. I was into EQ, then DAOC, then Shadowbane. By the time I left Shadowbane, I knew I had "a problem" cause the games were eating up not just my time, but my thought life and even my dreams. I discovered I dreamt literally of *nothing* other than the games I played.

I was an alcoholic, a meth addict & a life-long dope smoker. God delivered me from alcohol 5 years ago (after 15 years of drinking HEAVILY) & I havent touched it since. The meth & pot I had to walk though with God's help. I'm serious when I tell you it was harder for me to stop gaming than it was to kick meth (or pot, but pot wasnt hard to quit, for me). For weeks, maybe even months, I felt like something had been ripped out of my life, without a game to play. I had no idea I was "addicted" to gaming, when I was doing it (its actually a complusion, not an addiction, cause there is no physical element to it, other than dopamine release from the activity...but its not "technically" an addiction).

So anyways, yeah, I was a big time complusive gamer & it hurt my flesh heinously to put down gaming. One thing that helped me stop, was the fact that online gamers glorify evil to a disgusting degree. I utterly & completely DESPISE evil in any form (yeah yeah...its "just a game"..I dont care, I HATE evil)...the fact that 1,000s of gamers at any given time were all but worshipping evil online, made it a *bit* easier to walk away from it.

Ok, dats all I gots to say 'bout dat.

Shalom!

I could certainly say that I have been addicted to games. Starcraft is probably the only one that I have played for the hell of it after the game has been beaten, but whenever I buy a new game, I am playing in every free moment I have until i have completely exhausted it.

I usually give it a break when i start dreaming about it at night and letting it interfere with my school work.
