The Bible can not decieve you. The Bible is a book. A physical, inanimate object. It's contents, The Word of God, can be (and often are) misunderstood. That is one reason it is so important to study with someone who has more experience than you. Also, the Bible never contradicts itself, it is self reinforcing. If there is a question about a particular topic or passage, research other occurances of that subject, phrase or topic and see if they all agree with each other, or disagree, and that will help to frame your understanding of what the passage does or does not say. Also bear in mind that the Bible was written in a different culture, language, and time than most live under today, so take that under account when certain passages are difficult to understand.

Hope that helps!

Also, feel free to post what you are concerened about being deceived about, and I know a lot of people here will help giv eyou feedback on what the subject at hand is. :)

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV):
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God spoke the scriptures and humans wrote them down. God dictated, humans transcribed. Except in one case: the 10 Commandments. God wrote them with His own hand...

There are many things in the Bible that are mysteries; the Word mystery means sacred secret in the Greek. I was once told by a brother their were no mysteries in the Bible. Look it up I believe the word mystery is in the NT 27 times. The Bible is written in parables types shadows, allegories, different languages and culture etc…... Some where within all these different categories is something deep hidden and awesome direct from the Spirit of God.

Someone who takes God's Word literally is only seeing it thought the natual eye.

What is a good response to someone when they ask you how do you know that you are not being deceived by the bible...i do not feel like I am being deceived...please reply

I tell them that the "bible" isn't the point - a relationship with the Lord is the point .

Faith! I know from the deepest recesses of my soul, more than anything I have ever known, that Jesus, the Son of God is ALL truth. NEVER, I a mean NEVER, have I ever doubted this, or felt and thought so sure of something, and NEVER will. My "FAITH" is strong, and it will abide forever.

You aren't deceived by the Bible or by God's Wisdom.

You ARE deceived by yourself and by Man's Wisdom.

Any man that does not know he is deceiving himself is, in fact deceiving himself.

Everyone deceives themselves, and everyone is prone to being deceived by Man's Wisdom. Rather Man's Wisdom as in their own Human Wisdom or by another Man's Human Wisdom.

Do not deceive yourselves, you are deceiving yourself. Only Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit can give you answers. He is the only one that does not deceive. But with the Bible, it takes Him reading it for you to know the truth and not be deceived. If you read it without the Holy Spirit, you are deceiving yourself.

When people ask me questions like that, I like to reverse it on them to make them tell me how they know they aren't being decieved by whatever they believe in.
Like, how do they know they aren't deceived by their lack of belief in God.. esp. if our God IS true.

Plus, they need to PROVE to you you're being deceived... their lack of belief isn't proof.
So they need to be able to tell you how the bible is false compared to your personal life experiences, how your religion makes you unhappy, etc etc.
They can't slip into YOUR shoes to tell you how the Bible doesn't prove true in your life.

Non Christians will tell us all kinds of things in ignorance but they have no real answers themselves when the questions are turned around at them when they're forced to prove the validity of their own beliefs.

Last and not least, I like to point to fulfilled prophecy & accuracy of scripture... lots of good websites on that (google bible prophecy).
apologetics sites have lots of proofs too.

If someone, ANYONE, tells you that you are deceiving yourself, the safest and probably best route is ALWAYS to consider what they say with an OPEN MIND, and immidietely pray about it. Self-deceit is the most common thing, because it's so easily done. It's SO easy to deceive the self. And whether they have "proof" or not is irrelevant. If you ARE deceiving yourself, even if God Himself were to come at you with written proof, spoken proof, and every proof in existence, and even a replaying of you in the act on DVD WITH james earl jones commentary, it wouldn't matter. If you are deceiving yourself, no amount of proof is enough.

It's impossible to prove to someone that they are deceiving themselves. A key aspect of self-deception is the closing of one's mind to the fact that they are being self-deceived.

If they refuse to believe they are being deceived, and nothing will convince them otherwise, then why would you need to "PROVE" it. But of course, they would naturally demand proof that your opinion is right. "Prove that I'm deceiving myself, because I don't believe you, you'll have to prove it." They demand proof, because that is how they justify that they are right. No matter the reality of the situation, they see the "proof" as no real proof, and not good enough. Thus justifying their justification of themselves. It's a lose-lose-lose closedminded vain battle. When someone's mind is closed, what you say has no meaning, the close-minded person gets to pick what you really meant. And thus gets to choose you're wrong.

That's a fight only God Himself can win, and in my honest opinion, it's even tough for Him to get it done.

Sounds like a great answer to me. It beats the atheist's responses every time.

Reminds me of a time when I was working in a counselling center and got a call from a Satan worshipper.

20 minutes of interesting conversation which I will summarize below.

Question (mine) "Why do you believe in Satan.

Answer: I believe he is alive and well.

My response: Well every Christian I know believes Satan is alive, but we don't worship him.

His comment: But Satan has supernatural powers!.

My response: How much more powerful do you think the entity is that created Satan? (That would be God).

His response: Not sure, I don't know.

Etc etc etc

End of conversation, I told him that he had heard the gospel of Christ, and he had to make up his mind. Worship and accept Christ, or Satan.

We all have eternal life, the question is where we spend it.

He promised to think about it.

Never heard from him again.

You ask.... "What is a good response to someone when they ask you how do you know that you are not being deceived by the bible".

Tell him your story. Tell this person how after you gave yourself to Jesus your life improved. Tell this person that the OT is a chronology of interaction between God and man. God said this would happen and it did. Time and time again. This is how you can prove Jesus is the Christ, the OT speaks all about Him and how you will be able to know "The One". Tell this person when you invite God into your life, Jesus walks through the door. Tell this person to try it. If the Bible is a bunch of fables as this person currently believes, nothing will happen. Of course, you and I know those who seek will find so between you telling this person how much your life improved when you chose to conform yourself to the teachings of the Christ Jesus and the expectation and realization of this persons own experience after he/she invites Jesus into their life, you just might save a soul.

When you let go and let God the feeling that fills you is all the assurance you need to counter negative response. First, you have to walk the walk so that people see through your example you follow the teachings yourself. You'll recall... many are called but few are chosen. Your deeds, good and bad will be the determining factor as to who is chosen. Your deeds do count.

God bless.
