My wife was part of the United Reformed Church when we got married. Now she is Lutheran, although it was not because our marriage required it or would not work, but because she came to value Lutheran worship and preaching over Reformed.
For some different denominations may be too big for them. Personally I think that more than finding people of the right denomination, I think it is important to find someone who shares religious values and fervor. Even if she was Lutheran, if she did not care much for theology or want to pray or go to church that would be far more a struggle than when she was reformed and I Lutheran.
