Are we so supposed to pray for one another?

I don't know if this is the right place to post. But I've been working with this Christian at my job in the beginning we were getting to know each other. I found out he was a Christian so as we talked further. I told him could he pray for me so he prayed with me about better opportunities that was about 2 years ago.

So recently I asked him hey can you pray for me I need a new job and he said you can't tell me that. So not to long ago I got a job interview and I ask him if he could pray that my job interview goes well. He said you can't tell me about interviews-- that puts him in a weird spot. How so? I'm just asking for prayer our job has no policy against discussing interviews for other jobs because people quit leave all the time. I asked why are you going to get in trouble with the boss he said no

Yes, we are supposed to pray for one another however, there's something about your work relationship that makes knowing intimate details about your private life very uncomfortable for him.

I would simply respect that and stick to asking people you go to church with or people on the forum here for prayer instead of coworkers, even if the coworker is Christian.

Work relationships are kept much more professional and much less personal.

But we do go to the same church and he has prayed for me before at work so I don't understand why he's not willing. We even prayed together in tongue at work.

He also wanted to pick me up and take me to church.

Perhaps something in his mind has changed.

I know it's confusing but interpersonal relationships can be difficult to understand at times. I just generally go with the newest cues if there's a dramatic change.

You've tried talking and he doesn't want to talk so the best thing you can do is to respect his wishes such as they are.

Do pray for him when you pray for your friends and family though.

It is not God who is telling you not to pray with that co-worker -- it is the coworker asking not to be involved with that sort of prayer request. He has free will so he can choose not to be informed about certain prayer requests if he likes.

He is probably saying he does not want to know something about you wanting to leave the company. In other words even if you were not bringing it in the form of "prayer request" but rather just as "discussion topic about wanting to find another job or wanting to quit" -- he seems to be saying he does not want to know about such topics.

You're missing the whole point or I just didn't explain myself right. He has done prayers like this before. If he doesn't want to ok! I understood, but why all of a sudden you don't want to hear that or want to do that. Is weird is all I'm saying. We all have free will and I totally respect that

ok. My point is simply that I don't see this as a matter of "The bible says not to pray that sort of prayer" but more of the issue of his own choice of topics to be included in -- and as you say above it may be that he has changed his mind on that topic over time.

I personally wouldn’t waste any more time with that man. Just because someone says he is a Christian, of course, doesn’t mean he is. Instead of asking for prayer from him, I would pray for him. For his eyes to be opened.

Maybe you can talk with him about why.

And it is possible that God does not want you to pray for more or something else. After all, it is written,

"be content with such things as you have,"

in Hebrews 13:5.

If he's interested in you, then it could explain why he doesn't want to pray for you to get another job. ?
So that's why he said it puts him in a weird spot? Because I didn't and don't understand why that would put anyone in a weird spot if I'm just asking to pray or wish me well on my interview.

I notice a few weeks back when I asked him can you pray, cause I need another job he said " You can't tell me that" his tone was light.

Well, if his mind is working, he has a reason, and possibly God is having him stay clear of that.

After all, if he is a child of God, he is capable of being guided by God. So, it can be wise to trust God about what your friend does.

Be thankful for all you have now, including a real Christian brother to share with at work. Oh-h-h and . . . by the way - - how would you like to get a better paying job but not have a genuine brother in Jesus to share with, there?
