I did read all your post why are you pretending that I didn't and posting scripture not relevant to the discussion?
LoveGodsWord said: Indeed in the present tense. What does it mean to be "BORN of GOD"? How do you know if you are BORN OF GOD and what is the evidence or fruit of being BORN of GOD?
Your response..
You were not asked how you are born of God now brother were you? You were asked what is the fruit of being Born of God. You did not answer the question did you and are trying to make claims again that no one has said and seeking to answer questions that no one has asked. If you do not want to answer the questions asked of you just say so.

We still sin at times but, then we repent.

The Bible says no way should we continue in deliberate sin. If this does not bother a so-called believer, they should examine themselves as prescribed by the Bible.

"the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor." Gal 3:24,25
The reason for God's GRACE and forgiveness is shown in *ROMANS 8:4 that you left out of your post and is why you were encouraged to read a little further. We are given God's FORGIVENESS through faith
Didn't overlook anything. Feel free to peruse my verse by verse commentary on Romans 8
see Eternal Security

The Perseverance of the Saints

1John 2:19 They went out from us at some point in time, but they were not of us;
for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us;
but they went out that they might be made revealed, that none of them were of us

Fundamental Principle:
The Perseverance of the Saints

if they had belonged to us,
they would have remained with us. Once a person is a genuine Christian, they will inevitably continue to remain so.The phrase "would have remained" is in the rare Greek Pluperfect of which the Lexicon notes:
The pluperfect tense in Greek occurs rarely. It corresponds in a single Greek word to the sense of the English pluperfect, which indicates an event viewed as having been once and for all accomplished in past time.

This is not simply saying "Once saved, Always saved", though that can be logically inferred. This is saying, "Once saved, it is inevitable that such a person will remain in the faith identifying with the Christian community". (And as such, once saved, always saved, seeing as the saved never depart from the faith)

How did John know that "they did not really belong to us."? Because they left the Christian community. Thus if a person departs from the faith, such is indicative that they had never really been of the faith to begin with.

Again I note that while some claim that this distinction should only be restricted to identify whether oneself has or has not been born of God, in fact we see that John is teaching here that we can (and should) apply this principle to others.

God's Word does not say anywhere that a believer stays a believer forever unconditionally and cannot fall away to become an unbeliever
So how would that actually work in light of 1John 3:9?

Those who have been born of God have lost the ability to live a lifestyle of sin. The word "cannot" in "he cannot go on sinning" (vs 9) is the greek word "dunamai", from which we derive the English word "dynamite", and it refers to the person's ability. This is the effect of being born of God. It affects the person's free will such that it is inevitable that those born of God will exhibit behavior characteristic of children of God. If a child of God tries to live a lifestyle of sin, they find that they cannot do it., just as those who have not been born of God find they are incapable of living the Christian life. And from this comes the principle by which we can distinguish between the two.

Furthermore, having the seed to remain in us is not a function of personal effort or will. Consider the last phrase "he cannot sin, because he is born of God". "is born" in the Greek is perfect passive. More literally it should be translated "has been born of God". Being born of God is a passive event, not an active event. (John 1:13) One cannot make oneself born of God. And it is because of this past event that happened to a person that he presently is incapable of living a lifestyle of sin. This is the explanation that the Apostle John gives as to why no one born of God continues to sin. Obedience is not a cause but an indication of whether one has been born of God.

Bible scholar Howard Marshall also comments on the meaning of the perfect tense as it relates to the participle in 1 John 3:9: "The perfect tense marks not only the single act of birth, but the continuous presence of its efficacy" (Linguistic Key To The Greek New Testament. By Fritz Rienecker & Cleon Rogers, pp. 790-791, Zondervan Corporation Grand Rapids, Michigan, 1980). And thus by using the perfect tense John is once again assuming a doctrine of Eternal Security. For he's saying something not simply about a person's status at the moment, but rather their status at some point in the past all the way up to the present.

To become an unbeliever means a the person who has been born of God has to continue in sin. But as 1John 3:9 states, it just doesn't happen due to the nature of regeneration.
Typical of salvation-by-works Christians, the error you make is confusing cause with description. These are descriptive of the saved/unsaved. These are not talking about what a person must do to be saved/unsaved.

Furthermore you assume a person's salvation status is not established until the end. In which case it could never be said of a person they "have been" saved. It could only be said that they have the possibility of being saved, if they live up to it. Yet the Bible does speak of salvation from God's wrath, the judgement day, already having been accomplished upon coming to faith in Christ.

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." John 5:24 According to your soteriology one only has the potential, the possibility of having eternal life and escaping the judgement in the future. But not till the end. LIkewise Eph 2:8 "By grace you have been saved" But apparently you refuse to believe the gospel. Sorry brother God's WORD disagrees with you and it does not agree with the false teachings against once saved always saved.
we should believe and follow God's WORD over the teachings and traditions of men that seek to break the commandments of God *ROMANS 3:4
What traditions seek to break the commandments of God?
And are you saying that to be saved a person has to keep God's commandments? (Which is, need I say, Salvation-by-Works)

You have been provided God's WORD that contradicts your interpretation of the scriptures as well as been shown the context you have misconstrued scripture to fit you assumptions.

You cut off my post and then claimed falsely that I did not answer your question. Here's the part you cut off"

How do you know you're born of God? Because God promised people to be born of God if they believe in Christ. To doubt the promise is to doubt God. There's also effects of being born of God, as I noted in 1John 3:9 and also verse 10 "This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother."

"the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor." Gal 3:24,25
Indeed so you agree with me. If we have repented of our sins and been FORGIVEN then we are no longer "UNDER THE LAW" and condemned by it and stand before God guitly of breaking it *ROMANS 3:19-20; ROMANS 8:1-4. This scripture however is not saying that God's LAW is abolished as we would no longer have any knowledge of what sin is *ROMANS 7:7; ROMANS 3:20 which is the reason why the Law was given in the first place.
Didn't overlook anything. Feel free to peruse my verse by verse commentary on Romans 8 see Eternal Security
We would you feel I would need to. I study God's WORD for myself asking God to be my teacher according to the NEW COVENANT promise given to all those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD *HEBREWS 8:10-12; JOHN 14:26; JOHN 16:13; JOHN 7:17; JOHN 8:31-36; 1 JOHN 2:27. This same promise is for all those in the NEW COVENANT that believe and follow God's WORD. No where in God's WORD do the scriptures ever teach once saved always saved. This is a false teaching that is against the warnings given in God's WORD.

Your only repeating yourself here brother without addressing the post and the scriptures in them that disagree with you in post # 40 linked and elsewhere. Nothing you have posted here disagrees with anything already posted to you in the previous post accept your interpretation of once saved always saved and that a believer onces saved cannot become an unbeliever which is not biblical as shown in....

HEBREWS 6:4-8 [4], For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, [5], And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, [6], If they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. [7], For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes oft on it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receives blessing from God:
[8], But that which bears thorns and briers is rejected, and is near to cursing; whose end is to be burned.

and elsewhere...

It is not leaving the Christian community that makes someone an "UNBELIEVER" and not of "US" BELIEVERS. It is leaveing and departing from the FAITH. That is BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD. As JESUS says it is only those who CONTINUE in God's WORD that are His DISCIPLES *JOHN 8:31. THose who do not CONTINUE in God's WORD BELIEVING and FOLLOWING to the end are not God's Disciples or are they God's children *1 JOHN 3:6-10.

LoveGodsWord said: God's Word does not say anywhere that a believer stays a believer forever unconditionally and cannot fall away to become an unbeliever.
Your response...
So how would that actually work in light of 1John 3:9?

Why would it not work in light of 1 JOHN 3:9. What you left out are the supporting scriptures that show that BELIEVERS can fall away from BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD to become "UNBELIEVERS", This is shown all through the OLD and NEW TESTAMENT scriptures in *HEBREWS 6:4-8; HEBREWS 10:26-31; HEBREWS 3:7-19; 2 THESSALONIANS 2:3-4; 2 THESSALONIANS 2:9-10; 2 PETER 2:14-22; GALATIANS 1:6; HEBREWS 2:1-3; HEBREWS 10:35-38; EZEKIEL 3:17-21; ISAIAH 59:1-3; JOSHUA 23:11-13; NUMBERS 14:43; JAMES 5:19; JEREMIAH 3:8-14; JOEL 2:13; LUKE 8:13 (Put your mouse cursor over the scriptures to read them).

1 JOHN 3:9 is in harmony with the scriptures shared above. To be BORN AGAIN means to BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD. 1 JOHN 3:9 says Those who are BORN of GOD do not practice sin. The reason these people are BORN of GOD is through their FAITH in God's WORD. God's SEED (the Word) remains in them. The SEED represents the WORD OF GOD *LUKE 8:11; 1 PETER 1:23. This means to be BORN of GOD is to BELIEVE AND FOLLOW God's WORD and as a result of BELIEVING and FOLLOWING GOD'S WORD we walk by faith in God's Spirit *JOHN 6:63; GALATIANS 5:16 and do not practice sin.

Those who GO OUT from BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD are no longer ABIDING in Christ (the WORD) *1 JOHN 3:6 and not BORN of GOD (the Word) therefore they went out from us because they did not continue with us BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD *EPHESIANS 4:30; JOHN 8:31-36. We are only BORN of GOD as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW His WORD and His Word remains in us.

Your confused here brother. The scriptures teach anywhere that when we are BORN AGAIN we lose our ability to sin. If that were the case there would be no warnings about falling into temptation because we could not be tempted to sin and the scriptures would not teach that only those who endure temptation to the end will receive eternal life *JAMES 1:12. We have a sinful nature and can only be kept by the power of God through faith in God's WORD in order not to sin *ROMANS 1:4; PHILIPPIANS 2:13; ROMANS 1:16; 1 CORINTHIANS 1:18; 24; 1 CORITHIANS 2:5. We always have a free will to choose to sin or not sin when temptation comes if we choose not to sin it is only through faith in the power of God's WORD to save us from sin *1 CORINTIANS 10:13. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves accept to BELIEVE God's WORD. It is faith in God's WORD that saves us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW it.

You do know brother that it was the scholars in the day of JESUS that did not know God's WORD and put him on the cross right and crucified JESUS who is the very Word of God. Nothing you have provided above or elsewhere suggests any where that a BELIEVER cannot bacome an unbeliever. Yet the scriptures have already been provided that show a BELIEVER can become an unbeliever by choosing to no longer believe and follow God's WORD which is how God saves us from our sins. God's promises are conditional on BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD. That is how simple it is. We are BELIEVERS or UNBELIEVERS. The question remains who's side are we on? Are we the children of God or the children of the devil? By their fruits you shall know them *MATTHEW 7:16:20; 1 JOHN 2:3-4; 1 JOHN 3:6-10. The scriptures do not teach any where in the OLD or NEW TESTAMENT that a BELIEVER cannot fall away to become an unbeliever. The scriptures teach all through the OLD and NEW TESTAMENT that a BELIEVER can fall away to become an UNBELIEVER as shown already **HEBREWS 6:4-8; HEBREWS 10:26-31; HEBREWS 3:7-19; 2 THESSALONIANS 2:3-4; 2 THESSALONIANS 2:9-10; 2 PETER 2:14-22; GALATIANS 1:6; HEBREWS 2:1-3; HEBREWS 10:35-38; EZEKIEL 3:17-21; ISAIAH 59:1-3; JOSHUA 23:11-13; NUMBERS 14:43; JAMES 5:19; JEREMIAH 3:8-14; JOEL 2:13; LUKE 8:13 (Put your mouse cursor over the scriptures to read them). God's WORD does not teach anywhere the false doctrine of once saved always saved. This is a false teaching and is not in God's Word.

Once again your confused brother there is not such thing as a works based doctrine, the above are only your word's because you are arguing against God's WORD. I did not assume anything to you. God's WORD is not my words and only God's WORD has been posted above that show a BELIEVER can fall away from God's WORD to become an UNBELIEVER. These are God's WORD's not mine. You are free to believe as you wish. Your salvation is between you and God. These scriptures are only shared in love and as a help to you brother. God's WORD does not teach once saved always saved. God gives us a free will to choose to BELIEVE and FOLLOW His WORD or not to BELIEVE and FOLLOW His WORD. Only those who ENDURE temptation to the end receive eternal life *JAMES 1:12.

Indeed thankyou for providing these scriptures I believe them and love them and they support what is being shared with you here. Notice whosoever hears my voice and BELIEVES is "persent tense"? God's promises are only for all those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD in the "present tense" God's WORD is not for someone who believed (past tense) and is no longer a BELIEVER and has fallen away to become an "UNBELIEVER".

What traditions seek to break the commandments of God? And are you saying that to be saved a person has to keep God's commandments? (Which is, need I say, Salvation-by-Works)

As posted earlier your making things up again that no one is saying, said or believes. If no one is saying or said or believes what you are claiming why do you pretend people are saying things that they are not? OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is not how we are saved it is the FRUIT of God's work in us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD. If our faith has no fruit it is dead *JAMES 2:18-20; 26 and our tree will be cast down and thrown into the fire *MATTHEW 3:10; 7:19-20; 13:49-50. We are saved by GRACE through faith and not of ourselves it is a gift of God *EPHESIANS 2:8. None of these scriptures however sit very nicely with those who believe in the false teachings of once saved always saved which is not biblical.

Only sent in love and as a help to you brother.

Not really, I was simply quoting you and showing you did not answer the question asked of you which was what is the fruit or how do you know someone is born of God (emphasis was fruit). You started off talking about something urelated to the question asked of you. You were never asked how are people Born again now were you? A simple answer you could have provided would have been to quote the context of v10 in v9 which is God's children do not practice sin (the fruit of faith). Then latter I asked you what is sin. You still have not replied.

Sin to me is not loving God with all my heart mind and soul, and not loving my neighbor as myself. To crucify the flesh, I believe we have to pick up our cross bear the sins of others in a wicked world and forgive. That to me is walking in the Spirit of Christ.

Once again see the link where I prove Eternal Security and deal with verses people allege disprove it. Can't simply cut and paste it as you do as it's too long.
I've already showed from that very passage that due to the regenerate nature "because he has been born of God", a person doesn't continue in sin. You don't believe the verse. Rather you claim that a person born of God can sin so as to become unborn of God. No doubt for John 5:24 "whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." you'll claim that a person can vacillate between crossing over from death to life and then back again over and over. What would be Jesus' point even mentioning that phrase if that were the case? death to life is a one time event, as is being born. These terms used by the authors indicate a one time event.

Secondly "Believing and Following God's Word"? That is saying "Faith plus Works". You're making salvation out to be a contingent upon Works. And thus by "Faith" you mean "Faith in Works plus Works". So first of all you're claiming that you are not presently saved, but rather that you have the possibility of being saved if you continue to believe that you are saved by obeying God's command (need I say "law") and you continue to believe that your salvation is contingent upon you're complying with God's commands (which is to say that your salvation is contingent upon whether you sin).

As you said previously you view one's Christian fate upon sin. That's salvation by works and disbelief in the gospel.
It is faith in God's WORD that saves us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW it.
Which is it "faith in God's Word" or "Following it", which involves a plethora of works. So let's say at a point in time you fail to live up to the law, that is you sin. Then you've failed to follow it and become unborn of God, transition from life to death. So you're salvation is contingent upon whether or not you perfectly follow the law. You're trying to be justified by law. All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." Gal 3:10

Much as you've attempted to defend your salvation by works soteriology, you've misconstrued scripture to support it. You take a passage like "They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved." 2Thess 2:9-10 and claim it proves that a believer can become a non-believer. It does no such thing. Seems you refuse to love the truth. And likewise of other passages you claim that people lost their salvation whereas they didn't have it to begin with. Your interpretation is due to your unbelief. And you confuse Old Covenant with new.

Nothing personal but why would I follow a link to what you post elsewhere when you cannot even answer or respond to the scriptures provided that disagree with your teaching of once saved always saved here in this thread? Only Gods WORD is true and we should believe and follow it *ROMANS 3:4. If you do not have an answer just say so.
Your response...
With all due respect, no you didn't you simpy ignored the scriptures posted to you that show what it means to be Born again and are now just repeating yourself. Of course I believe the verse. Just not your interpretation of the verse which does not line up with the scriptures. As posted earlier and shown through the scriptures; To be BORN AGAIN means to BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD in the presnet tense. 1 JOHN 3:9 says Those who are BORN of GOD do not practice sin. The reason these people are BORN of GOD is through their FAITH in God's WORD. The scriputre says the reason they are Born Again and do not practice sin is that God's SEED (the Word) remains in them. The SEED represents the WORD OF GOD *LUKE 8:11; 1 PETER 1:23. This means to be BORN of GOD is to BELIEVE AND FOLLOW God's WORD through faith and as a result of BELIEVING and FOLLOWING GOD'S WORD we walk in God's Spirit *JOHN 6:63; GALATIANS 5:16 and do not practice sin.

Please stop making things up. Your just repeating yourself again without responding to what has been posted to you. As posted earlier the scripture is true and whosoever believes God's WORD has passed from death to life but to BELIEVE here is always "PRESENT TENSE" the scriptures say nowhere that we can BELIEVE God's WORD and follow it "past tense" yesterday and no longer believe and follow God's WORD today and still be in a saved state before God. That is why there are so many warnings in God's WORD stating only those who endure temptation to the end receive everlasting life *HEBREWS 6:4-8; HEBREWS 10:26-31; HEBREWS 3:7-19; 2 THESSALONIANS 2:3-4; 2 THESSALONIANS 2:9-10; 2 PETER 2:14-22; GALATIANS 1:6; HEBREWS 2:1-3; HEBREWS 10:35-38; EZEKIEL 3:17-21; ISAIAH 59:1-3; JOSHUA 23:11-13; NUMBERS 14:43; JAMES 5:19; JEREMIAH 3:8-14; JOEL 2:13; LUKE 8:13 (Put your mouse cursor over the scriptures to read them).
Secondly "Believing and Following God's Word"? That is saying "Faith plus Works". You're making salvation out to be a contingent upon Works. And thus by "Faith" you mean "Faith in Works plus Works".
Well that has no truth in it. That is something I have never said or do I believe. That is you trying to put a spin on something I have never said or believe because your not able to address the scriptuers posted to you that disagree with you. As posted earlier OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is not how we are saved it is the FRUIT of God's work in us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD. Perhaps you should read what is posted to you before responding?
Rubbish! I have only posted that God's promises are conditional on BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD in the "present tense". God's WORD does not teach anywhere that we can believe and follow Gods' WORD yesterday, depart from the faith and fall away from God's WORD go out and live like the devil today and be in a saved state before God and expect to receive eternal life. It is God's WORD not mine that provides these warnings not me as already shown through the scriptures above. Many do not understand the gospel or the power of God. JESUS came to save us from sin not to continue in it *MATTHEW 1:21; JOHN 8:31-36. It is God that works in us to save is from our sins as we believe and follow Gods WORD through his Spirit *PHILIPPIANS 2:13; GALATIANS 5:16. Please stop making things up I have never said or believe. It seems a common practice when those a challenged with the scriptures and cannot respond to them that they feel the need to state arguments that no one has ever said or believe. This is simply sad and a lost opportunity to know God's WORD. Only God's WORD is true and we should believe and follow it *ROMANS 3:4.
Did you not know that faith in God's WORD allows you to follow it because be believing you are walking in God's Spirit *GALATIANS 5:16; PHILIPPIANS 2:13; JOHN 6:63; ROMANS 8:4; JOHN 8:31-36. If I am lame and cannot walk and JESUS says to me arise take up my bed and walk and I believe JESUS do I have the power to walk if I BELIEVE God's WORD in my own strength of does my power to walk come from my faith in God's WORD allowing God's Spirit to work in me to do what God has asked me? The same as the sick and the dead all through the gospels we are sick with sin and there is nothing that we can do of ourselves to save ourselves except to BELIEVE the Word only that God's WORD will do what it says it will do. We are saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves it is a gift of God and not of works lest any man should boast. You really do not know this do you brother? The rest of your post is simply your words trying to make up arguments and claims I have never said or believe. I will leave that between you and God.

Hope this helps.

Well that has no truth in it. I have read everything you have posted and have responded to everything you have posted in detail section by section showing the scriptures you have ignored in promoting a false doctrine of once saved always saved. If you do not believe the scriptures provided to you and which have only been provided and sent in love as a help to you then that is between you and God. If this is the case we may have to agree to disagree. I only genuinely wish you all the best and my prayer is that we may see each other in God's Kingdom.

Only if you do not believe God's WORD as already posted in the OP and all throughout this thread. Once saved always saved is a false teaching not supported by the scriptures

So it’s not just me.
Funny how many seek to make things up when confronted with the scriptures. Many want to talk about anything else but. However, only God's WORD is true and we should believe and follow it *ROMANS 3:4. Did you have anything to share in relation to the OP? Yep according to God's WORD seems many are going to be disappointed come judgment day *MATTHEW 7:22-23. When they had the chance to hear God's WORD but chose to turn away from it.

There are only two kinds of people in this world:

Honest sinners and dishonest sinners.

The honest sinner confesses their sin and trusts in God's mercy, believing in the Gospel for their salvation.
The dishonest sinner spends their time pretending they are holy and worrying about the specks in the eyes of others.

Be an honest sinner.

According to God's WORD there are two kinds of people. Those who continue in known unrepentant sin and those who by faith in God's WORD repent of their sins and do not make a practice of sin because they BELIEVE God's WORD *1 JOHN 3:3-10. Therefore SIN is the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil v10. Only God's WORD is true and we should believe and follow it *ROMANS 3:4

Be saved by Grace through faith and receive the gift of God *EPHESIANS 2:8; JOHN 8:31-36.

No, I get it, I do. You want to think that somehow if you just try hard enough that you can start being righteous.

That's the old man talking, drown the old man through repentance, remember your Baptism, trust only in Jesus Christ. The Law can't help you, but Jesus can.

Well that has no truth in it. Did you not know the power of the Gospel *1 PETER 1:5; GALATIANS 5:16; ROMANS 3:31;ROMANS 1:16; ROMANS 15:13; 1 CORINTHIANS 1:18; 1 CORINTHIANS 2:5; 1 CORINTHIANS 4:20; 2 CORINTHIANS 13:4 is to save a sinner from their sins *JOHN 8:31-36 through faith alone in God's WORD *JOHN 3:16? OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is not how we are saved it is only the FRUIT of God's work in us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD through love.

According to God's WORD all those who CONTINUE in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN will not enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN *HEBREWS 10:26-27 because they reject the gift of God's dear son *ROMANS 6:23.

JESUS saved us from sin not to continue in it *JOHN 8:31-36. God's Word says those who continue in known unrepentant sin are lying if they say they know God *1 JOHN 2:2-4.

The Gospel is indeed good news for those who believe it. It is the power of God to save us from our sins.

God's Sheep hear His Voice (the Word)
