Are Toys a Thing of The Past?

I was just wondering this while watching Child's Play. Especially since the closing of Toys R Us,.. do kids even play with toys anymore? It seems like they're on their devices than they're outside playing. Of course I'm typing this on a device lol but it's after midnight, and I don't play and I'm not a kid,.. well,.. physically anyways.

My nieces and nephews certainly love their toys! I do think they are getting a little too attached to devices, though. If they were my children, I might rely a little less on the electronic baby sitter...

That said, electronics are the future, and knowing how to use them well is important in order to be competitive in the jobs market. Moderation is key, though, much like with everything else in life.

dolls, pretend play, games with us

right now her doll is in England for 2 weeks & is taking etiquette classes and meeting the Queen!
I took pics of doll in the "airplane" & daughter was pretending she was stewardess

I was just talking about one aspect of this today. Growing up in the 50's 60's all little kids had tricycles. Big bulky ones and we were noticing we don't see those things much anymore. It's little kids on small two wheeler bikes. Think tricycles were safer myself.

Toys are thriving. They are taking over more and more of my house.

And the new fangled Lego has become so versatile.

Here is a Lego Dinosaur my son and I armoured. You couldn't do that with Lego in my day.

Wow!! That was so cool that I thought that it was the real thing at first. 0-0 How did they control it and make it fly like that?

I was thinking of this today. When my wife asked if we should buy a toy for my son, who is 9 going on 9. He has his own computer, and he plays on it, a lot. Toys are just rubbish to him, he will use them for a day, and they just sit there. Toys are good for the little ones however, my youngest son will play with his toy cars for hours.

Children engage with the tools they’re given access to. Much of this depends on your parenting style. Independent toy stores always existed. They were useful in purchasing innovative toys which didn’t rely on electronics and simple ones that developed specific skills.

My daughter attended Montessori school (they began at 17 months) and I replicated the teachings at home. She received Toys R Us items at a later age. While computers have a place, I would frame them as educational tools if I had children now. And smartphones wouldn’t be an option.

Play is an important part of child development as is wonder. It nurtures creativity and stimulates the mind. Everything I do professionally began in childhood. That’s where the passion was birthed.

There is a saying he is 9 going on 16 meaning he is a lot more mature than his age. My son is definitely 9, he is not super mature.

Oh well that's good considering that you're only a kid once. (I just never grew up in the first place. )
