1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
if you claim to be a believer then you have these or your in word only !?
Then you have the ability to pray in tongues and you will when you are prepared to use your faith. Is is one of the tools of the Holy Spirit available to you when you are ready to use it.I don't speak in tongues but I have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit
Off topic and inappropriate for this thread. It is righteousness to respect the OP and to show love to the others who have the indwelling Spirit and use the gift of tongues in a sacred and holy manner.You guys do realize that "tongues" does not refer to unintelligible babbling but actual languages that people haven't been taught to speak before right?
Speaking in tongues would be you start speaking Mandarin despite never having learned the language.
Not gibberish.
1 Corinthians 13
I agree with you. It is an expressive, articulate language spoken to God, who understands it and builds us up as a result. It is similar to when God spoke from heaven at the baptism of Jesus. Those who were in touch with God heard God say, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." The ignorant ones who did not have any sensitivity to what God was saying heard only something that sounded like thunder.
It is on topic and establishes something that must be considered, that any claim to speak in tongues should abide by the biblical standard.Off topic and inappropriate for this thread.
It is off topic because the OP did not intend for the thread to be a debate about whether modern use of tongues is true or false. Therefore, I will not debate the issue with you here.It is on topic and establishes something that must be considered, that any claim to speak in tongues should abide by the biblical standard.
