  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Nothing at all. It sometimes demonstrates that nature, rather than God is responsible for phenomena, but that doesn't prove or disprove God.

Ok that makes sense...I'm sorry bout that...but most people that I talk to that believe in, for example, evolution vs. creation refuse to believe there is a God, and will try to explain everyway in which way that what they were taught plainly shows that there is no God. I dunno, it doesn't really matter I guess.

I believe in evolution like I believe in gravity. But I don't believe in God, not because of these, but because I see no reason to. SCience only explains the natural. It can by it's nature say nothing about the supernatural. Therefore the supernatural does not concern science.

Hm. Ofcourse science does not disprove Christianity - or most other religions for that matter. Science and religion are not enemies. Evolution is not automatically the same as atheism.
And what's considered truth changes with time. Sometimes this is very bad. Sometimes it can grant us a better understanding of reality, depending on what truths we discover, and what truths we try to bend to our advantage/pleasure. It always has been that way. We discover more and more. We think we know it all, and then a little while on we discover we were wrong and that there's more to this existence than we had thought to begin with
Now I am not saying you think this way, but surely as a person who seems to rever science you can agree that a stance where science is used as an excuse for bullying believers belonging to whatever religion is a mockery of science as much as it is of religion?!
It can annoy me a bit when people use the one to mock the other. They are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they should be inclusive. A true religion would have no fear whatsoever of science. It's followers may, as people in all beliefs and layers of society can fear science. But the religion or belief in itself could risk nothing but ultimate proving itself true, as science is about truth above all.

Science is only valuable to a secularist to explain natural phenomena. When a theist tries to claim supernatural reasons for something, science may or may not allow for a natural explanation. If a natural explanation is available a reasonable person will accept it over a supernatural one. If not then the matter is debatable. But what has never happened is that God has been the explanation for something which is explainable without God. An Atheist may infer that nothing ever will be exclusively explained by a God, but that is speculation.

Clem, I think I get where you're comming from.
I don't think I know it all. I can't even begin to understand it all..I'm confused about alot of things and most of the time feel as though I don't care, I try to be open minded, theres alot of things that just seem far fetched to me, but it doesn't really matter. I guess I'll just go by whatever works, I know that when I didn't believe in God alot of horrible and pretty scarry things happened..I'm not going to get into that though.

Why should there be proof of ghosts, it is outside science, but that doesn't mean they don't exist, I don't know why some people hang everything on science as if humans have learnt everything, there is nothing wrong with stepping out of science since science hasn't came far enough to explain everything, not even close actually and many of the things they have explained have been proved wrong, corrected etc. Imagine likfe in 100 years proved the existence of God, many faithless will die simply because they are only prepared to keep up to speed with science and not go further in faith.

Why would it be outside science? It's just something science does not understand - yet. That means it should be researched, not forgotten - seen with objective eyes. Ofcourse, I think spiritual matters can be a bit shifty and potentially dangerous, so.... But seen with objective eyes, it should be researched. Not forgotten

Go ahead and PM me, NaAsThIk, if you want... I don't exactly feel the comfort or the words to describe my experiences at this time on a public forum.

No offense to the rest of you... :)
None taken, I'm kinda the same way.
