Hello Mont,
I'm not sure that I saw anyone say anything about it being blasphemy to deny a stigmata. If you are referring to what I have said about blaspheme, I explain a little better.
Simonthezealot made a statment that the stigamata were given by Satan. I reminded him that Jesus said that attributing something from God as being from Satan would be blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. I personally don't know if any of the stigmata are from God or not but I certainly would not say they were from Satan without proof positive.
Is there a biblical example of God bringing illness or injury to a godly person?
Some point to this as an example:
Galatians 6:17
From now on, let no one make troubles for me; for I bear the marks of Jesus on my body.
I personally believe that he is referring to all the marks that he received from his many beatings.
Paul also says this:
2 Corinthians 12:
6 Although if I should wish to boast, I would not be foolish, for I would be telling the truth. But I refrain, so that no one may think more of me than what he sees in me or hears from me
7 because of the abundance of the revelations.
Therefore, that I might not become too elated, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated.
8 Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me,
9 but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me.
Exactly what the thorn in the flesh was, no one knows, but God wanted to keep Paul humble.
In the OT, God allowed Satan to test Job. The 1st line says:
Job 1:1
In the land of Uz there was a blameless and upright man named Job, who feared God and avoided evil.
Satan was allowed to strip Job of all he had. He killed Job's family but when Job still didn't blaspheme God Satan was allowed to harm Job physically but he couldn't kill him.
Job 2:7
So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with severe boils from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.
Does any of this prove stigmata? I don't think so.
If there is proof of stigmata, it is not in scripture but in the lives of those that experience them.
God Bless,
