Is that calvinism at the speed of light?
Haha, actually Hyper-Calvinism proper is not a form or variation of Calvinism at all, but an entirely different worldview and doctrine. The word "hyper" is not merely an adjective or a pejorative way to refer to Calvinism.
Calvinism and Hyper-Calvinism are two different things.

A Primer on Hyper-Calvinism
These are not misrepresentations of Hyper-Calvinism, in my experience. I have listened to sermons of Hyper-Calvinists, and one of the first things I learned is that they believe you don't necessarily have to have faith, or even come to faith at all before you die, to qualify as the elect. They believe some people may be elect, even unbelievers, and will go to heaven when they die. To these hyper-calvinists, faith is merely a comfort, but not a necessity.
Anyways, to me this flies in the face of
sola fide (justification by faith alone), which true, historical Calvinism affirms.
I'm sure if you poked around in Hyper-Calvinism long enough you would find many other borderline heresies, if not outright heresies.
Another important tenet of hyper-calvinism (which those articles I linked will mention) is that they see no difference between the
secret, decretive will of God and the
revealed will of God. Thus, they find little or no reason to evangelize, or at least, they view evangelism differently than the rest of us.
