First let me say that I am not well versed on personal study of the Bible, outside of going to church for years and attending the occasional Bible study group.

My question is...Are there references in the Bible as to what is a greater sin or is a sin just a sin in the eyes of God? Point being, is it worse to steal, bare false witness, covet thy neighbors spouse or Corvette, pray in front of a statue, or murder? Now I certainly know that mankind puts murder at the top of this list (well in most cases unless it is under the banner of "war")...but is it on top of God's?

Thanks!!!

Jas 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Jas 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill,
thou art become a transgressor of the law.

With God sin is sin. There are no levels of sin. The liar will join the murderer in the lake of fire.

Re 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

No sin is greater in terms of the final verdict. Its either death or life. The wages of sin is death. The wages of murder is death and the wages of stealing is death. There are no levels of death. If you are dead you are dead. The difference might come from the actual short term consequence of the sin. But in God's judgment he does not discriminate against types of sin. Its either your sins are atoned for or not. If not then as spiritman said, the lake of fire is where you will end up.

P.S: I don't mean you when I say you. I just use 2nd person automatically when I am posing

First of all, it's not a sin to pray in front of a statue, unless you think the statue is God, which would just be silly.
That being said, and trying to reconcile your question with the unforgivable sin, I'd say the frist commandment is the most important. I wouldn't say they descend in importance after that, but I'd say subjecting yourself to God is the #1 priority.

Theoretically I tend to agree with the other posters - but what about in the OT where some sins merited death and others onlysacrificing a couple of pigeons or whatever? That would appear on the surface that there is some order of severity. Only maybe it's the differentiation of the outworkings of the sin that is already within us. For example everyone (I should think) has tendencies toward pride, envy etc.etc. which can lead to outward ACTS of sin.
Sorry, not sure if I'm making myself very clear here.

sin is sin in the end, but different sins have different consequences while here on earth

Yes, and different degrees of punishment when they die.

Mr 6:11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Dust.......cast.......we are are all but "dust in the wind"....REPENT!

Mark 6:11 And who soever should not be receiving ye, nor should be hearing of-ye, going out thence, shake off ye! the dust/coun <5522> the underneath thine feet into a testimony to-them. Amen I say unto ye, it shall be more tolerable to-Sodom or Gomorrah in a day of Judgment, then that City". [#5522 used in Revelation 18:19]

Revelation 18:19 And they cast dust/coun <5522> upon their heads, and cried-out, lamenting and mourning, saying, "Woe! Woe! the City, the Great, in which are-rich all those having ships in the sea out of her preciousness! that one hour was Desolated". [#5522 used only in Mark 6:11]

I've actually been wondering about this

will ppl experience different degrees of hell based on what they've done?

What about the ones that are still living?.......REPENT!

Nahum 3:2 A sound of a Whip, and sound of a quaking wheel, and horse galloping, and chariot leaping. A horseman mounting. And blazing sword, and flashing spear, and many wounded and mass of corpses and there is no end to bodies. [Isaiah 28 "scourge"]

Luke 12:48 The one yet no knowing doing yet worthy of blows/plhgwn <4127> shall be being smitten few. To every yet to whom was given much shall be being sought beside of him and to whom they-committed much more exceedingly they shall be asking him.

Reve 15:1 And I perceived another sign in the heaven, great and marvelous. Messengers, seven, having blows/plhgaV <4127>, seven, the last, that in them is finished the fury of the God.
