  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

John uses Chanukkah to date the occurrence of certain events, but there is nothing that says anything about Yeshua celebrating Chanukkah.

OK. Reworded. He attended hanukkah. Just because he was hanging out at the Temple during the holiday doesn't mean he was celebrating.

For information's worth, the hagada (legend) of the oil and the miracle is just that, a legend. History prooves it was created by the rabis to take the emphasis off of rebellion because they were on the tip of another rebellion, so they changed the theme of Hannukah. I like celebrating Hannukah for it's real theme.... overcoming avoda zara and standing up for holiness!

I keep hearing people say that if you're not catholic (and your Christian) then you must have had the roots of your church in the cahtolic church, therefore you're protestant...I deny this. What/how do you feel?

SP
I respond that only those that have roots tracable to Luther andthe reformation are Protestant. Otherwise, they are just "Non-Catholic Christians."

Verismo, I think he was asking us Jewish and Gentile "heretics" what we classify ourselves as , I think we all well know what everyone else thinks of us, mostly it starts with our own family members.

:)
Oh. Pardon me. I hope you didn't infer an insult in my reply.

Anyway, as I see it, all Christians are Messianic Jews wether they want to recognize it or not, as Jesus Himself said, "Salvation is of the Jews". We became an adopted child in your family. And I for one am very mindful of, and thankful for that.

And you say you know what everyone thinks of you, I don't know if that is true, but for my part, I simply think of you as my brothers and sisters.

Peace.

That's OK, no harm done, however I must correct you in your belief that all Christians are Jews. This was the furthest thing on the wannabe list of Chirstians since the first century passed. Yes, Y'shua said Salvation is of the Jews, meaning that that is who it was promised to and from who out of all the nations on the earth, salvation was made available since the beginning, not just with Y'shua, he came much later, it began at Mt Sinai. Salvation comes from the one true G-d, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacon ( Isra'el) and from no other. The L-RD choose Israel before Adam was even created. It might help you to read a few threads on here about who is a Jew and who isn't , there are many misconceptions out there and many times this has been discussed here.

Shalom!

How did they overcome it?

I read before that swines were covered in grease, litted up and set off in the general direction of the line of elephants, the elephants would pani and trample their own troops. Not sure who were the perpetrators in this instance though.

Well, it went something like this......

The Jews, no one in the region really, had ever seen an animal as big as an elephant - camel was a big as it got....... AND these elephants were armored, mounted by the elite, vastly better equipped, trained and experienced Syrian army, and crazed with wine before battle. They literally were the most technologically advanced war machine of their day - and horrifying to boot!!!

The Jewish farmers and merchants that made up the Israeli militia were totally demoralized with defeat after defeat..... what are rakes and hoes, bows and arrows, even swords against these huge beasts with their impenetrable hide and armour, even if you could get close enough through the hail of arrows and spears from the riders??? What could you do?? The rampaging beasts just crushed you like a summer gourd.

Well, the eldest son of Matthias took it upon himself to prove that HaShem had not brought an invincible enemy against Israel...... What he did was charge under one of the great goliaths with a spear and plunged it into the beast's soft under belly, killing it. The beast fell and killed him, but the Jewish troops, rallied by the proof that these beasts could be defeated turned the tide of the war........ with bravery and cunning!

Well, I really meant that in the "spiritually we are all Semites" kind of way, not that we are actual Jews.

Peace!
