  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are four Pointers always leaving out LA or do some leave out another point?

Id like to know if there are other kinds of 4 pointers. Are there any four pointers that leave out Unconditional Election?

There are exceptions to any generalization. As a general rule most 4 pointers disagree with limited atonement.

While I used to be a 4 pointers, I look at my previous understanding of some of the soteriological doctrines and recognize inconsistency, and that I was more semi-pelagian than a 4 pointer. This is very common. I believed in a limited atonement, but I limited the power of the atonement to save. I regret that now.

On the other hand, I have a friend that once claimed to be a 4 pointer, he was actually a 5 pointer who did not grasp what the limited atonement was actually teaching. He thought the limited atonement meant that Christ death was of insufficient value to save all men. That is not exactly what most reformed people teach in the term "limited atonement." Its not like if Christ wanted to save a few more people, he would have to suffer a little more, no, not at all. His death was of infinite value, but all the infinite grace of his death goes to the elect and saves them to the uttermost. The "limited atonement" speaks of the extent of Grace, not the value of grace.

If you are honestly looking at that issue, I would recommend reading Reformed people on the issue. Many reformed pastors, teachers and apologists write and speak on the issue. You can "youtube" and get Johnny Mac, Piper, Sproul. There is also a good one that is not listed as one of the big ones, his name is James R White. I recommend listening to him. I will post a URL below. He admits to previously being a 4 pointer and says some interesting things. Listen to what 5 pointers say about themselves. I say this because non-5 pointers regularly misrepresent what the limited atonement actually teaches.
