  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've heard from one preacher in particular who continually preaches Christians are sinners. And yes, our first born nature is sinful.

Then I saw a christian in this forum say something almost opposite, saying "I believe christians are not called sinners in the bible, but saints."

And I am inclined to agree with that, since I recall from the bible christians being called saints often in New Testament.

I am just sorry to hear that the preacher who keeps saying we are sinners sinners sinners may not be theologically sound.

any encouragements? any direction you can share in Scriptures? Thank you

15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.
16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who[12][Or destined to ] would believe in Him for eternal life.
17 Now to the King eternal[13][Lit of the ages ], immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever[14][Lit to the ages of the ages ] and ever. Amen.

Hmm. That's a good question.

I know I am a born again child of God.
I know I sin. Does that make me a "sinner"?

The New Testament calls believers saints or children of God or disciples. No where does it call us sinners, though we sin.

"Sinner" must be a standing before God. I looked up the word sinner in the New Testament. It never refers to a believer.

Although we are indeed still sinners, and it is clearly inferred that we are called sinners, that is not our new nature, and as such we are given new labels to fit our new nature. These labels are the following and more:

1) Saved

2) Converted

3) Saints

4) Brothers and sisters

5) Children of God

6) Witnesses (of God)

7) Christ-like (Christian)

And so forth. But yes, sinner does still apply in a sense. Hope this helps!

Believers, once fulfilling the requirements of salvation (calling on the name of the Jesus as Lord and Saviour with faith brings about the gift of grace), are never again called sinners because we have been justified. But, the Bible calls all people sinners (all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Rom 3:23), which refers to our fallen state before we have been saved. And, it is understood that Christians will still sin, as a majority of Hebrews 12 discusses what happens to Christians when we sin.

In Christ,
Dave
