  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are babies saved?

No, babies aren't saved. They are born with the same sinful nature that continues on until they do get saved. All you have to do is watch kids play to know that they can be AWFUL, mean, and definately sinful. ;) lol

From what I have studied, it's not 100% for sure that a baby who dies will go straight to heaven. Only God knows the heart of a person... Look at all those people who God had slaughtered in the Old Testament. He already knew they would never accept Him, so He had them wiped out before they could do more harm. And at the same time, those who were mixed in who got killed who Did believe in God, Were saved (spiritually).

Just my .02. ;)

well, they aren't lost

But they don't need salvation as they are not sinful.

I agree that it's around the age of 12 that they know that they do sin, and right from wrong, and need salvation; prior to that they have an innocence that we, as adults, do not have.

My kids have all accepted the Lord around ages 4-6. They knew Fully what they were committing themselves to, and had a peace that I couldn't explain once they prayed. I don't think a child needs to wait until they are 12 or 13 to know what they're doing.

I agree - some children are younger than 12-13, it really depends on the child and their own level of maturity.

Some people, with disabilities, etc will never reach that age, and I believe that since they don't they are also saved.

Babies aren't saved but they are created innocent and the sinful behavior is learned from their surroundings. Children who leave this earth at a young age do go to heaven until they reach an age of accountability and are able to recognize their sin nature and accept Christ. The age at which they reach accountability is very much up for debate as people have different ideas. I personally believe that it's different for every child!

I am pretty sure my ds knew what he was doing at 4 when he prayed the salvation prayer. They don't need to wait until 12/13 to pray it, but I think after 12/13 if they haven't been saved is when God holds them accountable and they go to hell (if they pass away at that age)

I really don't want to sound contrary or snotty, but where in the Bible does it say anything about an "age of accountability"? I've heard this taught in churches ever since I got saved nearly 30 yrs ago, but I've never found it in the Bible.

I've also never found it in the Bible that babies are born innocent and become sinful from their surroundings....

The bible states that you must hear the word (a baby cannot do that with understanding). You must believe it; which also requires understanding. Repent of your sins, which if you do not understand right from wrong you don't understand why you are repenting. Confess that Jesus is the Christ the son of God; and be baptized for the remission of sins.

It all goes back to being at a point in life where you can understand the difference between right and wrong, and also understand what commitment you are making when you make that decision to follow Christ.

No I wouldn't have said your were snotty, it's a very valid question.

I have never seen it in the Bible either, but have heard it taught. I think the teaching had something to do with the Jewish age of adulthood being at that age (12/13) I think there is a point in time where you are considered being able to be accountable and responsible for your own actions and knowing right from wrong.
