It's definitely debatable.

I think it more so depends upon your personal walk with Christ. Obey what Christ wants. If Christ tells you to stop, or you even feel like you probably should, then do it, and why, because you should always endeavor to err on the side of obedience to God.

I am a christian and I play grand theft auto and that game has you play as a criminal doing many illegal things. Like someone else said, as long as YOU know that it is FICTION and it is wrong to do those things in real life, then you are good.

I play Payday 2 and my friend got it for me on Steam.

If you don't know fantasy from reality then it may not be good to play video games at all.

It's not good to put more stress on yourself either worrying about what a fictional character is doing vs you. Just don't act like they do that's all.

Difficult question -

I wouldnt really analyze it too much, sinful - not sinful, good - not good. Spending too much time with games is never a good thing - if you neglect other things like family for example. On the other hand if you have too much time on your hand and limited possibilities it can be a blessing to have a hobby you can stick, too. To me, its basically something to slay time. However, my gaming preferences have changed over time. When I was younger I appreciated beautiful graphics and action. With time I began to focus more on gameplay and how I feel playing a game. When I had my ps3 I really liked fallout 3 - spend countless hours wandering the wasteland. Nowadays, I dont think I would like to get back into that dark and grimmy world. Today I appreciate games like the Wind Waker with its nice characters and its colorful world.

Personally, I think video games, in general, are a huge waste of time. With that said, things are not sinful. People are sinful.

Well :)

I rather put it like this a knife can be used to cut bread or to kill a man. Dont watch the tool and what it can do but the man who is behind it (the gladiators).

However, some games are depicting sin in a very liberal manner (I think GTA is a prime example). I liked those games very much. They have a fully fledged out world which is very well done. However, they depict gangster violence, which is sin (no matter what). And even though, I quite liked those games, I had a feeling that these games are not good for me, among others. When I bought myself a wii u I sold of all other games and consoles because I thought that nintendo games are not only more fun but also more lighthearted. While that can be debated, and I am not telling anyone that nintendo games are the games which christians are meant to play, I think that they are the most innocent of the bunch.

And of course, like I mentioned before, video games can be a huge waste of time. But sometimes we have a lot of time on our hands and this time could be used up for things worse than video games.

I know I loved GTA at first. But got old after awhile. I now just play Fallout 4. I also have the choice in it to be good, bad or inbetween. Then again I also love games that are set in a post-apocalyptic world. Since that seems to be the future of the world, at least until God destroys everything.
