Are all sins equal?

There are three aspects in answering this question:

1. In terms of civic punishment, not all sins are equal, Exodus 21:

23 But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, 24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
2. In the eyes of God, not all sins are equal, John 19:

11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”
James 3:

1 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly
3. In terms of eternal judgment and punishment, all sins are equal, James 2:

10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
Romans 6:

23a For the wages of sin is death.
Are all sins equal?

In a sense, they are. In other senses, they are not.

Matthew 23:23 KJV
23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Hebrews 2:2 KJV
2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

Deuteronomy 25:1-3 KJV
1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
2 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.
3 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.

I'm sorry for being slow. Can you make the connection between the above and the OP explicit? Thanks.

It seems like "weightier matters of the law" are of more importance than tithing. Logically then failure to perform the weightier matters is more important to God than the lesser matters.

Another example is from Pov 6:16. It would seem that God hates these 7 items more than most.

16 There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

They are not at all equal. John speaks of sin that leads to death. And that not all sins lead to death. In the past the church has distinguished those sins which are overtly opposed to love of God and neighbor and which have the effect of destroying love within the person committing them. Well all sins 10 toward such as the deeds of the flesh outlined in Galatians 5, for example death, opposition to love, alienation from God, there are certainly lighter sins that are inevitable and which don't cut us off from God by their nature such as the deeds of the flesh outlined in Galatians 5, for example.
