  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

True, and in this context you are correct. In such discussions I would call myself an atheist.
In what discussions would you call yourself agnostic? I notice your faith icon calls you 'agnostic', so I'm guessing the majority of times.

How I interact with people in RL puts me in an agnostic position since I tend to consider beliefs as personal preferance. For example, I think killing animals for food is wrong. Most disagree with this but that doesn't mean my world-view is incorrect because it's my world view. And while I find the practices of killing animals to be abhorrent, it's obviously not wrong for the majority so I'm left entertaining the fact that what's real for me isn't real for you. If that makes sense.
I'm not entirely sure how this pertains to agnosticism. Perhaps apathy towards the myriad of theological beliefs is your view of agnosticism?

The theistic vs atheistic arguments seem to be about determining an almost absolute reality that we all share. In the realm of science, I agree with atheism. Outside of that however, anything goes as far as I'm concerned.
Personally, I can't concieve anything that's beyond the realm of science.

In a discussion about a person's relationship with his/her god.

For me, agnostic speaks of the unkown or from dictionary.com "a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study."

I don't know about apathy, maybe. I'm just keenly aware of my limitations to perceive as a human. It's like looking at the world through a peep-hole.

Personally, I can't concieve anything that's beyond the realm of science.
I view science in the same way, as far as perception goes. It's very limited. This doesn't mean i don't value science because I certaily do but it doesn't have application in all arenas of life.

Anything involving an ethical value system is beyond the realm of science.
Science can say why ethical systems exist and even why some values might be more common than others.
