Are Adventist too overly concerned with what goes in the mouth?

I agree with Endium. Why do you need to start an entirely new thread every time you discuss this topic(s)?

If you have a new revelation, just post it in the old thread. A new post bumps it to the top of the threads.

As you all know I haven't read much EGW (yet), but this kind of fell in my lap this morning. It's from Desire of Ages (pages 396 & 397):

The rules in regard to purification were numberless. The period of a lifetime was scarcely sufficient for one to learn them all. The life of those who tried to observe the rabbinical requirements was one long struggle against ceremonial defilement, an endless round of washings and purifications. While the people were occupied with trifling distinctions, and observances which God had not required, their attention was turned away from the great principles of His law.

Christ and His disciples did not observe these ceremonial washings, and the spies made this neglect the ground of their accusation. They did not, however, make a direct attack on Christ, but came to Him with criticism of His disciples. In the presence of the multitude they said, "Why do Thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread."

Whenever the message of truth comes home to souls with special power, Satan stirs up his agents to start a dispute over some minor question. Thus he seeks to attract attention from the real issue. Whenever a good work is begun, there are cavilers ready to enter into dispute over forms or technicalities, to draw minds away from the living realities. When it appears that God is about to work in a special manner for His people, let them not be enticed into a controversy that will work only ruin of souls. The questions that most concern us are, Do I believe with saving faith on the Son of God? Is my life in harmony with the divine law? "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life." "And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments." John 3:36; 1 John 2:3.

The minor questions are a distraction Maco. If I'm not forcing my view of healthy eating on you, then it really does seem pointless for you to force your opposing view on me.

I think your concern is with your prison ministry partner to begin with, not with us. You need to talk to him instead of displacing your anger on people that have no desire to defend something we do (or don't do) through convictions we've had ourselves.

It just gets really tiresome to repeatedly defend why WE do something, when we've never once tried to force it on other people. If your partner did try to force it on other people, talk to HIM. That's who your real issue is with anyway.

You must have misunderstood my post. It wasn't my partner who walked out on the fellowship it was several inmates who were seeking to understand the SDA beliefs. The teacher was a well known SDA pastor on DVD.

Once again I will repeat myself. I am not trying to make anyone eat anything. What I am doing is presenting truth. I think we're still concerned with truth here, I hope.

Do you believe exposing false doctrines is a dispute over minor issues?

As far as making new threads. Every thread I make may have a similar topic but it covers different principles which I believe need threads of their own otherwise they get lost in forum.

So, like I said....I'm not trying to make you eat anything or do anything. What I am saying is the truth and that is the kingdom of God is not in food or drink.

Maco, I'm done discussing this with you.

Obviously you feel YOU have the whole "truth" and so there's really nothing more to discuss anyway.

I don't feel I have the whole truth but I know who does...;)

May the Lord continue to bless us through you with your peaceful spirit and your kind heart.

Your brother in Christ,
John

Who said it was?

Doesn't sound like the kind of thing someone seeking the truth would say. Sounds more like someone who already thinks they have found the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

The teacher was a well known SDA pastor on DVD.

And the preacher's name would be?
