Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

(Hi, I have no idea where a thread about archaeology fits in; if you are a moderator and you think it doesn't fit here then just move it to another forum.)

Archaeology: "Archaeology, or archeology[1] (from Greek ἀρχαιολογία, archaiologia – ἀρχαῖος, arkhaios, "ancient"; and -λογία, -logia, "-logy[2]"), is the study of human activity in the past, primarily through the recovery and analysis of the material culture and environmental data that they have left behind, which includes artifacts, architecture, biofacts and cultural landscapes (the archaeological record). Because archaeology employs a wide range of different procedures, it can be considered to be both a science and a humanity,[3] and in the United States it is thought of as a branch of anthropology,[4] although in Europe it is viewed as a separate discipline."

Recently got interested in archaeology (thought it would be cool to dig around in the dirt and come up with an artifact that was over a million or so years old), but I'm not really that experienced, I just began reading a few magazines about the subject. With that being said, I was looking for a few experienced archaeologists that might be willing to train me in this discipline.

If you're a YEC, archaeology will challenge your faith.

Why can't you speak complete English instead of chopping everything up? It's almost as bad as making typos.

I have no idea what "YEC" (are you even speaking English?) means; please explain.

Most people that start threads in this area know their acronyms, he simply assumed you did too. But since he didn't, a simple question would get you the answer that AV just gave you, it stands for Young Earth Creationism, a particular view among creationists that believe that the Earth and everything in it has existed for approximately 6,000 years.

Pro-tip: next time try to be less confrontational, that is if you want to have good relations around here.

My apologies. "YEC" is an acronym for "Young Earth Creationist." Yes, I am speaking English. As a matter of fact, it's the only language I speak fluently. In the future, when I respond to you, I will attempt to use proper, typo free, unchopped, clear sentences.

If you are hoping to dig up a human artifact over a million years old you are either going to disappointed or famous.

I would suggest putting this in the history forum, actually, if there isn't a specific archaeology forum that you can find. Physical and life sciences deals more with the natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.) than with the social sciences and humanities.

Do you consider Homo Habilis to be human?
Yes, I consider what you would call H. habilis to be human -- but I don't consider humans H. habilii.

There's a difference.

I wonder sometimes if humans are human.
Well, when we grow up being taught we're animals; then when someone acts like one (e.g. Klebold & Harris) the scientists stand around scratching their behinds wondering what happened ... I'm sure it tends to breed confusion.

I don't know, but I would assume our cholerages & blasversities, on the day Columbine went down, were right there teaching their students that we are animals; but then, when they got the news, shook their heads in wonderment as to why it happened.

They'll teach us that we're mutant animals ... but they won't tell us the whole story -- like the fact that animals can go feral.

(In my opinion ... I haven't walked the halls of higher aceldama since the late '70s.)

Absolutely amazing AV. CHILDREN died in that massacre and you come here to blame it on what you suspect was being taught in class, absolutely amazing. I sincerely hope none of the relatives of the victims comes across your posts. And here I was thinking Pat Robertson was bad.
