• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Don't be to quick to see sin. A lie is a different thing entirely; you could just as well say that fictions books are lies. Do you see/agree?

One thing: do it only to those who you think would cope with it; I enjoy pranking and being pranked, but many may not!

You could say that it is the intent; it is more of a joke than an intentional deceit. The person, if they do not figure it out themselves, understands once you have told them - no harm has been done. Lying in all other circumstances is done out of sin - a desire to hide ones own guilt, or a desire to manipulate others, or even a desire to hurt others. These are sins against God, but I do not think that the prohibition on lying applies to things like jokes. In the same way that I think that cheating is wrong, but the game 'cheat' I have no problem with.

This is merely my opinion - though I am fairly sure that I right - so you had better make up your own mind! Don't ever do anything that goes against your own conscience; if you still are worried that it is a sin, don't do it. Nonetheless, I really do think that you should not be to quick to judge something a sin. I have a lot of experience in that field (that's why I chose to answer your post!) and it is too easy to extend the laws of the Bible further than they were ever meant to go; you begin to weave yourself a web of legalism, which you then get caught in.

I know it never specifically allows 'lies' in jokes in the Bible, but if you look at the spirit of the law, the principle of the thing, I think it would be taking law too far to forbid 'lies' (if they can be called such) in jokes. Jesus allowed his disciples to 'harvest' and 'prepare' grain on the Sabbath, though if you took the laws completely to their end the way the pharisees did, the picking and rubbing that the disciples did would be wrong. However, the laws of the Bible are not meant to be restrictions, but are meant to be good for man. In the same way, it was lawful to pull one of your animals from a hole on the Sabbath, though that could have been construed as work.

I hope this helps!
