I take it very seriously. I would never roast a Passover ham with propane.

Wouldn't that make him dependent on us in some sense? Can't he be God without our respect, or approval. Do we not ultimately become his judge in this regard?

I don't think I implied that God requires our respect or approval, Saint Steven. My intent was that our approaching Him is ultimately on HIS terms, not our own.

Aaron's sons, as representing the way to God, were mandated to walk in the way of God. To err would be to confuse the message to the entire people of God. Seems to me the evidence is there that Moses and Aaron were instructed, encouraged, and even warned by God to do things according to the pattern. I don't think the error was a casual misreading of the incense recipe but apparently much more was at stake.
